It's a big night in the SPFL Premiership and Celtic fans will be looking for their heroes to preserve a perfect domestic record when Aberdeen come calling.
A host of new players will be checking in at Parkhead before tomorrow's Scottish transfer deadline but Martin O'Neill will be confident his current squad have enough firepower to floor the Dons.
Stephen Robinson's men were woeful in their 1-0 home loss to Rangers on Sunday and will need a big improvement to stop the Hoops from making it four wins in a row in their title defence.
Celtic vs Aberdeen top betting tips
There was no weekend hangover from Celtic after their Champions League horror show in Austria as they beat Falkirk 2-1 at home thanks to a Camilo Duran double.
They played some decent stuff before tiring in the second half but face a different challenge tonight against an Aberdeen side who will be more defensive and physical than the Bairns.
We saw 12 corners when Rangers faced the Dons on Sunday and that market appeals tonight as the Hoops try to break down Robinson's defence.
Over 11.5 flag kicks pays just 10/11 at Bet365 but if you combine that with over 5.5 first-half corners it boosts the odds to 6/4.
Aberdeen had six players booked on Sunday so there could also be some value in backing them at -1 in the card handicap, which pays 7/5.
Falkirk vs Rangers
That Pittodrie win on Sunday eased the pressure on Rangers boss Derek McInnes but it will be piled back on if they drop points at Falkirk tonight.
After crashing out of Europe to minnows Jablonec, it was crucial that McInnes didn't lose any more ground in the SPFL Premiership title race.
They ground out that 1-0 win over Aberdeen but it was more down to the Dons' limitations up front than expert defending from Rangers.
McInnes is fortunate that his side now face a Falkirk side who have also lacked punch up front, with their only Premiership strike so far coming via an own goal.
That makes me think Rangers will edge another victory and combining the away win with under 4.5 goals pays a decent evens at Bet365.
New boy Kim Minsu was the only real bright spark for Rangers at Pittodrie and the Korean also looks good value at evens for a goal or an assist tonight.
Motherwell vs Dundee United
Motherwell have made an impressive start to the season under new boss Alfred Johansson and are odds-on favourites for a win when Dundee United come calling in the SPFL Premiership tonight.
There was a danger the Steelmen would be knocked off track after losing manager Jens Berthel Askou plus star players Elijah Just and Elliot Watt this summer.
But Johansson still has them playing some lovely football and it's all the more impressive given a host of players have been out injured.
Dundee United head to Fir Park buoyed by a 4-0 win over Kilmarnock that ended a worrying slump in form since their opening draw with Rangers.
Gaffer Jim Goodwin is still missing due to illness though and I fancy Motherwell at 19/20 for another win. Adding on over 1.5 goals boosts their odds to 5/4 at Bet365.
New signing Jardell Kanga announced himself with a spectacular leveller off the bench on Sunday in the 3-3 draw with St Mirren.
If that earns him a start, the Swedish youth international could offer some value at 7/5 for a goal or assist.

You said you have had 5 own goal winners so far this season but every game is on live now so that makes it alot of losers which you never mention if you could put your own goal bets up before the game starts then people would know what game to bet on otherwise mentioning random games after they have won is pointless

Tonight I will be watching Middlesbrough v Burnley as it’s a live game so I will be betting on that, there are two live games on tonight so anyone who bets own goals could split their stake on both matches. I don’t do that though I only bet the games I watch. The Prem is only 2 weeks in and they only show 2 live on a Sat/Sun. I do not bet on games that are live on Skysports plus only the main games. If I bet on every game I’d be broke. I have said the live games only.

To be fair, Macca has quite frequently advised to keep an eye on own goals in matches. Some he has pointed out beforehand, but in his defence the point he is making is that own goals in matches is where the money is and which games you wish to get on is your choice but it happens quite often.
The interesting teams I’d keep an eye on this season are:
1. Fulham ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
They benefited from 4 opposition own goals AND scored 3 themselves. That’s quite interesting from an own-goal perspective.
2. Burnley ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
They scored 4 own goals themselves but also benefited from 3. So their matches were particularly interesting from this angle.
3. Brighton ⭐⭐⭐⭐
They conceded 4 own goals, the joint-highest. If that pattern carried forward, I’d be interested in opposition to score rather than necessarily Brighton themselves.
4. Wolves ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Also conceded 4 own goals, despite scoring only 26 league goals themselves.
5. Arsenal ⭐⭐⭐⭐
They benefited from 4 opposition own goals while scoring only 1 own goal themselves. That’s a much more favourable profile.
⚠️ One important point
I wouldn’t bet on an own goal market purely from last season’s numbers. Own goals are relatively rare and highly random. However, this data can be useful as a secondary angle.
I know what type of games the stand a good chance it’s quite simple.
David Atkinson above knows the crack, he’s had plenty of winners on the live games.
What I’d personally do is this.
We all know, own goals are rare, I’d treat this as a high-odds, selective strategy, not something I’d bet every weekend.
I’d probably scan every Premier League and Championship fixture, but only actually bet 1–3 matches where the data and price stand out.
My 2026/27 own-goal watchlist
I’d split the teams into two categories:
DEFENSIVE OWN-GOAL WATCHLIST
These are teams whose defenders were most prone to scoring own goals last season:
* Brighton — 4
* Burnley — 4
* Wolves — 4
* Brentford — 3
* Bournemouth — 3
* Fulham — 3
* Nottingham Forest — 3
* West Ham — 3
BENEFICIARY WATCHLIST
Teams whose opponents scored the most own goals:
* Arsenal — 4
* Fulham — 4
* Sunderland — 4
* Man City — 3
* Aston Villa — 3
* Burnley — 3
* Man United — 3
But here’s how I’d actually bet it
I wouldn’t bet an own goal every time one of these teams plays.
Instead, I’d wait for a fixture where the two lists intersect.
For example:
Arsenal vs Brighton
That’s interesting because Arsenal were one of the biggest beneficiaries, while Brighton were one of the biggest own-goal conceders.
That would go onto the “watch” list.
Then I’d look at the bookmaker’s Own Goal — Yes price.
If it’s something like 5/1, 6/1, 7/1+, I’d be much more interested than taking 3/1 if that makes sense?
The Championship is actually more interesting for this strategy.
Last season:
* QPR — benefited from 6 own goals
* Ipswich — 6
* Wrexham — 5
* Millwall — 4
And on the other side:
* Swansea — scored 4 own goals
* Preston — 4
* West Brom — 4
* Blackburn — 3
* Birmingham — 3
* Sheffield United — 3
* Wrexham — 3
* Sheffield Wednesday — 3
* Millwall — 3
So QPR/Ipswich/Wrexham would immediately go into my Championship watchlist.

I don’t back own goals AC1987, I have posted here helping others who wished to back them. It is clear to see that Macca was just pointing out own goals but failed to suggest any games he was getting on. Another example just now in the Rangers game he has just mentioned. I suppose he backed an own goal in every single match today. Own goals age rare yes, of course they are. Weigh it up against how many own goals there are in total today against the total matches played, it’s not difficult. Don’t start suggesting to people on here that own goals aren’t rare, yet fail to mention anything when there isn’t any own goals in matches. You go quiet then don’t you which is strange.
Guessing doesn’t help people when your praising own goals so much yet fail to back anything up on your theory or thinking. It’s clear to see, hence why you have been called out on this. I rest my case.
Oh and just to be clear…
Own goals are rare because they need a perfect storm: an unfortunate touch, the ball redirected towards goal, and it still has to beat the keeper. Most defensive touches and deflections don’t end in goals. That’s why the odds are so big — the bookmakers know how infrequently they happen and price the market accordingly.

2 own goals from 13 matches = 15.38% of matches
So 11 of the 13 matches (84.62%) did NOT have an own goal.
That’s actually a useful little snapshot for my theory. Even across leagues where there can be plenty of defensive pressure, the vast majority of matches still don’t produce an own goal. The fact that the odds are generally big reflects that low underlying frequency.
That’s exactly why I’d describe the market as a low-frequency outcome rather than something that happens regularly.
