Two clubs separated only by one point and one place in the Premier League table meet at the MKM Stadium on Sunday afternoon as seventh-placed Everton travel to surprise-package Hull City.
Hull have enjoyed a fairytale start on their return to the Premier League, as they followed up back-to-back wins at home over Manchester United and away at Coventry City with successive draws at home to Aston Villa and away at Chelsea.
However, the Tigers headed into the prolonged international break after suffering their first defeat of the campaign, as they lost 2-1 at St James’ Park against Newcastle United.
Nevertheless, Sergej Jakirovic’s hosts occupy eighth place in the Premier League table.
Everton are a point and a position better off than their hosts as they defeated 10-man Ipswich Town in Merseyside last time out.
That result preserved the Toffees’ unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign, but three of those have resulted in draws – including both of their away matches.
How the bookies view it: Everton favourites
Everton are favourites to claim their first away win of the season on Sunday, with bet365 pricing an away success at 21/20.
Hull are 27/10 to claim their third win of the season, whilst the draw is 12/5.
Head to head: Everton with the advantage
These two clubs have met 10 times in the Premier League era, with Everton winning five and losing just twice (W5-D3-L2).
However, the Toffees’ have failed to win on each of their last two visits to the MKM Stadium (W0-D1-L1).
Players to watch: Oli in the cards again?
Oliver McBurnie has been no stranger to the referee’s notebook already this season, as he has been booked in three of his previous four Premier League appearances.
The Scottish international also got booked on international duty for Scotland against North Macedonia during the prolonged international break, and looks like good value at 5/2 at bet365 to collect another card on Sunday.
Predicted line-ups:
Hull are expected to be without Jack Butland, Eliot Matazo, Darko Gyabi, Charlie Hughes, Ilyas Ansah, Tim Iroegbunam and Matt Target
Everton will still be without the injured Christian Norgaard, whilst Merlin Rohl and Vitalii Mykolenko are doubts.
Hull City: Tzolakis, Coyle, Ajayi, Egan, Herrington, Giles, Belloumi, Crooks, Slater, Thomas, McBurnie
Everton: Pickford, Maitland-Niles, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Armstrong, Garner, Johnson, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish, Barry
Anything else catch the eye?
This clash is unlikely to be a thriller given the two teams involved, with a low-scoring tight encounter the most likely outcome.
Everton’s opening five Premier League matches this season have averaged just 1.80 goals per game, with Under 2.5 Goals landing in four (80%) of them.
Three of the Tigers’ five contests on their return have also featured fewer than three strikes, meaning I like the look of the 10/11 on offer at bet365 for Under 2.5 Goals.
As alluded to, the Toffees’ have drawn three of their last four Premier League encounters – including both of their opening two road trips – whilst two of Hull’s last three have also resulted in a stalemate.
