Racing tips: Class act Funambule Sivola can carry top weight at Doncaster

I unfortunately missed the race of yesterday's sole selection, so I can't really comment on how he ran. I've not really had time to watch it back either, due to work commitments. I've seen comments on social media where they said he was never really put into the race, which is a shame as he was supported into 17/2 from 20/1.

Doncaster 1:15

I put up the favourite in this race, FUNAMBULE SIVOLA on New Years day, where he ran well up until a point and then he got extremely tired. This drop back in trip looks a positive, and the return to a quicker surface could also be key to him. He is carrying top weight again, like he did at Cheltenham last time out, but this time the conditions won't be as taxing, with 4F less to run and not having to race on soft ground. The form of his two runs prior to the Cheltenham run is very strong. He finished 2nd to First Flow in the Peterborough Chase, where in hindsight he didn't really see the trip out again. I thought he might've needed the run, hence why I thought he would've been okay over the 2m 4f trip, but looking back, he clearly is a non stayer at the top level at this kind of trip at this moment in his career. He travelled the best in the race at Huntingdon, but got tired late on. The race before that, was his infamous 2nd to Shishkin, where he made the best horse in training work the hardest he's had to work in his career (up until beating Energumene). He eventually was outclassed, but that was a cracking run, and that was over today's drop and on similar ground, which is why I think carrying top weight against some good horses in this race isn't impossible. His odds aren't great, but there's a reason for that.

Doncaster 4:00

Gary Moore sends one runner to Doncaster today, and Josh Moore goes up to the Yorkshire track for just the one ride as well, which is his returning ride since his injury. It's interesting that Gary has sent this lad up there, as there must've been a similar race down south closer to his training base. Gary has only sent 13 runners to this track in the last 5 years, which has yielded 2 wins. That's not a great strike rate, but he's still had winners from the ones he has sent, and I believe this lad could outrun his odds.

GLENO has been a chaser in recent years, but his form has tailed off over the larger obstacles, so connections have sent him back over hurdles. He has not been seen over hurdles since 2019, and even though he might've been seen to be a better chaser, his strike rate over hurdles is still decent. He was 3/8 over hurdles, and he is now 3lbs lighter than his last win over hurdles, which was his last run over hurdles in fact. Good ground appears to be fine for him, winning previously on this surface on a few occasions. Gary Moore is in cracking form currently, so it could be worth siding with him whilst his horses are firing, and the return to form for this lad is definitely not out of the equation.
