It is a straight shootout for top spot in Group H of the European Championship qualifiers as Denmark host Slovenia on Friday. A closely fought encounter is expected here, although the Danes will be relying on their vocal home support and are expected to have the slight edge here.
It has been an impressive qualifying campaign for Denmark, who have lost just once in eight matches. The Danes are joint top with Slovenia in Group H, although they have an inferior goal difference to their rivals.
Denmark appear to have turned things up a notch in recent weeks having won their last four qualifying matches. They picked up a 2-1 victory in San Marino last time out with Rasmus Hojlund and Yussuf Poulsen getting the goals.
Home form is usually pivotal for Denmark in most qualifying campaigns and they have been perfect in front of their fans in Group H. In fact, Kasper Hjulmand’s men have won their last seven home matches in European qualifiers, a run stretching back to 2019.
Slovenia have also enjoyed a solid qualifying campaign so far and are seemingly matching Denmark win for win. They have suffered just one defeat in eight matches and are actually above the Danes on goal difference.
The Slovenians head into Friday’ clash with four wins in their last five qualifying matches. They picked up a 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland in their previous fixture with Adam Cerin’s early effort proving the difference.
Slovenia’a only defeat in Group H has come on their travels as they were beaten 2-0 in Finland back in June. Overall, Matjaz Kek’s men have lost three of their last six away matches in European qualifiers stretching back to 2019.
