Jordan vs Argentina

, KO: 03:00 , Dallas Stadium
Argentina

Group J winners Argentina take on already-eliminated Jordan at the Dallas Stadium in the early hours of Sunday morning in what is effectively a dead rubber.

Argentina have already sewn up Group J thanks to two wins from two, thanks to more magic from Lionel Messi.

The little magician rolled back the years with a terrific hat trick against Algeria in La Albiceleste’s opener, before a brace against Austria on MD2 sealed top spot with a game to spare.

Jordan were competitive on their World Cup debut, as they were level with Austria heading into the final quarter of an hour, but conceded an own goal and from the penalty spot to eventually lose 3-1.

Nizar Al-Rashdan gave Jamal Sellami’s side the lead in their crunch match with Algeria on MD2, but a couple of second-half goals gave Algeria all three points and confirmed Jordan’s premature exit from the competition.

How the bookies view it: Argentina clear favourites

Argentina are heavy favourites to make it three wins from three in Group J, with bet365 pricing the reigning champions at just 1/6 to claim all three points

Jordan are 14/1 underdogs, whilst claiming their first-ever point is unfancied, with the draw trading at 7/1.

Head to head: First-ever meeting

Sunday morning’s clash in Texas will be the first-ever meeting between these two nations.

Players to watch: More Messi magic?

Lionel Messi has already lightened the tournament up for Argentina, as he followed up his hat trick against Algeria by bagging a brace against Austria – overtaking Miroslav Klose’s goal-scoring record at World Cup finals.

The Inter Miami attacker is understandably short at 8/11 to score his sixth goal in Group J, but combining that with an Argentina win boosts the price to 4/5.

Predicted line-ups:

Jordan appear to have no fresh injury or suspension concerns.

Lionel Scaloni will likely shuffle his pack, given top spot is already secured, but Christian Romero will definitely be absent after picking up a knock.

Jordan: Abu Laira, Haddad, Nasib, Al-Arab, Abudahab, Abu Taha, Al-Rashdan, Rawabdeh, Olwan, Al Mardi, Al-Taamari

Argentina: Martinez, Molina, Otamendi, L Martinez, Tagliafico, De Paul, Mac Allister, Fernandez, Alvarez, Messi, Martinez

Anything else catch the eye?

With top spot already guaranteed, Lionel Scaloni will likely rotate his side, but you’d still expect the reigning champions to collect all three points.

Argentina have won to nil in seven of their last eight matches, and a repeat pays 8/11 at bet365.

La Albicelete’s rarely thrash their opponents, so combining an Argentina Win & Under 3.5 Goals also appeals, and that pays 5/6 at bet365.
