Tuesday’s Football Tips: Messi & Mbappe to Menace Madrid

Eight countries will be represented over the next two weeks as this season's Champions League reaches the last-16 stage and we kick-off with arguably the tie of the round which sees PSG welcome the 13-time champions of Europe Real Madrid to Paris tonight.

The match isn't short of sub-plots. Of course Lionel Messi has been the bane of Real Madrid fans' lives for many a year scoring 26 goals for Barcelona in 45 El Clasico appearances. Up against him more often than not was Real legend Sergio Ramos, now even he is plotting the downfall of his former club alongside other Bernabeu favourites Angel Di Maria and Keylor Navas.

Messi is a 15/4 shot to break the deadlock alongside team-mate Kylian Mbappe who, in his fifth season at the club, has now notched over 150 goals for PSG and they're each even money to score anytime.

Both sides sit atop of their respective leagues with similar records so it's tough to call the outright market here and both might settle for a draw at 11/4. There should be goals though and it's 10/11 on BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals or you can have 4/5 on two or more PSG goals.

In the night's other Champions League tie Sporting welcome Manchester City to Lisbon for a last 16 first-leg clash. Sporting put up a spirited display at Porto on Friday night in a 2-2 draw where they ended up with 10-men but City are on a another level to most teams right now.

The Portuguese side conceded more goals in the group stage (12) than any of the other 15 teams that qualified for the knock-out stages, in fact only six of the 32 teams shipped more. That has to be a worry ahead of the visit of Pep Guardiola's free-scoring City side who are top scorers in the Premier League and were only outscored by Ajax and Bayern Munich in the group stages.

Man City are just 2/7 to win so there's little value there. Even the goals markets offer little scope for punters with Over 2.5 Goals at just 8/13 however pairing it up with Over 2.5 Goals in Paris pays just under 9/5.

It's been another week of turmoil at Pittodrie as Stephen Glass was shown the door following the Dons cup exit at the hands of Motherwell, the last straw for the Aberdeen board in a disappointing campaign. Former midfielder Barry Robson has been handed the reigns on an interim basis and he has a great chance to stake a claim for the job full-time starting with a win over bottom-of-the-table St Johnstone.

But don't expect a classic in the Granite City, only three goals have been scored in the last five meetings between the sides and only eight in the last eight. A lack of goals has been the Saints problem all season, only managing 14 in 25 league games so far. Aberdeen will take a win by any means and a Dons victory by a one goal margin pays 9/4. If Robson can get a response out of his underperforming squad then the 4/5 on the home win looks a backable price.
