Tuesday’s Football Tips: Arsenal’s kids face EFL Trophy test at Leyton Orient

There's a host of EFL Trophy ties for punters to tackle tonight and several Under-21 sides from the top flight are on the road at tricky venues.

These games are a far cry from life in the pampered academies as they take on grizzled pros from the lower leagues and it will be interesting to see how Arsenal's Under-21s get on at Leyton Orient.

The Gunners kids were inconsistent in their group last term, thrashing Exeter 5-0 but suffering a 5-2 beating from Reading before bowing out in the last 32 with a 3-0 loss at Peterborough.

They now face an Orient side who have lost their first four games in League One this term but Richie Wellens' men have won both their Carabao Cup ties, shocking Championship side Millwall last week.

Leyton Orient beat Fulham's kids on penalties in last season's group stage after a 2-2 draw but that was the only victory they picked up while finishing bottom of the section.

Wellens might prioritise League One points over the EFL Trophy after such a poor start so the value might lie with the Gunners here at a hefty 5/2 with Betfred.

Arsenal's three group games produced 16 goals last term so it could pay to back another thriller. Over 3.5 strikes pays evens at Betfred while over 1.5 first-half goals is 11/10 at Bet365.

Bradford City vs Newcastle Under-21s top tips

Newcastle's Under-21s only collected one point in their EFL Trophy group last term but were competitive in all their games, losing by a one-goal margin to Wrexham and Crewe while Port Vale edged them out on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The Magpies kick off this season's section with a trip to Bradford City and the Bantams are in decent form, banking seven points from their first four games in League Two.

Betfred make the youngsters outsiders again and Newcastle Under-21s look a bit overpriced at 100/30. I can see this one being close and the draw may be worth a punt at 11/4.

Going for the half-time stalemate is probably safer and that pays a decent 7/5.

Birmingham City vs Walsall top betting tips

Big-spending Birmingham have made a good start to their League One promotion push, with three wins and a draw so far. It will be interesting to see how seriously boss Chris Davies treats the EFL Trophy but the Blues are still red-hot 1/3 favourites to beat Walsall tonight.

Walsall have also started the campaign well, winning three out of four in League Two and getting past Exeter and Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup.

They are 6/1 outsiders at St Andrew's but I fancy them to score at least and combining BTTS with over 2.5 goals pays evens with Bet365.
