Sunday’s Football Tips: Reds Have the Appetite for Old Trafford Win

AS Super Sunday's go this one looks very tasty! As well as the main course at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Liverpool there's also a fine selection of equally mouthwatering matches across Europe.

For starters there's El Clasico from La Liga, where things are very tight at the top. The clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid may have lost some of its lustre since the departures of Messi and Ronaldo from La Liga but its still one of the greatest derbies in the world.

In the evening there's a sweet-looking Derby d’Italia between Inter Milan and Juventus. Both sides are off the pace at the top of Serie A where AC Milan are setting the pace. Arguably though the Roma v Napoli game is match of weekend in Italy as it sees 4th v 2nd with the visitors having the chance to go top with a win.

Other side dishes that catch the eye throughout the day are the London Derby between West Ham and Spurs, PSG‘s trip to Marseille and defending champions Atletico Madrid‘s visit to top of the table side Real Sociedad.

But enough of the food references, let's take a look at the bread and butter of the SPFL Premiership where St Mirren welcome Rangers. The Buddies are unbeaten in six and have won their last three so go in to the game in good spirits and will take confidence from being the only Scottish team to beat Rangers during a regular 90 minutes last season.

The Gers look a lot less reliable this season but can regain top spot if they avoid defeat. Alfredo Morelos has been misfiring so far this season and it's Kemar Roofe that's leading the way for Steven Gerrard's men. He's 1/1 to get on the scoresheet. Another man who is usually value for the defending champions is penalty-taker James Tavernier, the attacking full-back is 8/5 to score anytime.

Much like Celtic, Rangers have been racking up corners this season, thanks largely to the lion's share of possession they enjoy and you can get just under even money (1.925) on them winning the Asian Handicap market of +2.5 more corners than St Mirren.

But back to the ‘dish of the day' in Manchester… United manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer seems to lurch from one perilous situation to another at at the moment. Like Roadrunner being chased by Wile E. Coyote, he always seems to escape just in the nick of time. None moreso than this week. After a 4-2 defeat at Leicester City he found himself 2-0 down at half-time at home to Atalanta  and staring down the barrel, only for the Theatre of Dreams to deliver another thrilling second half comeback and prevent the TNT from blowing up in his face.

But he could run out of lives today. United have the individual talent to beat anyone on their day but Liverpool have a more tactically acute manager, a squad that's gone the title-winning distance and in Mo Salah, a player that's a match for any Ballon d'Or contender in the world right now.

A gutsy 3-2 win over Atletico in midweek showed this side, for all it's talent is also up for the fight and they can cap an excellent week's work with all three points.
