Rangers vs Celtic (Sunday, 12:00)

Ibrox sets the stage for what could be one of the most significant Old Firm derbies in recent memory as Rangers and Celtic square off on Sunday.

The Glasgow giants are embroiled in a pulsating title race with league leaders Hearts, while Motherwell continue to lurk ominously in the background.

I’ve already put together a separate Bet Builder double for Sunday’s blockbuster battle in Glasgow, but another player-based selection has since caught my eye.

Callum McGregor is as big as 6/5 with PaddyPower to commit two or more fouls, and that price looks too generous to ignore.

While the Celtic captain is committing an average of 0.96 fouls per game in the Scottish Premiership this season, it's reasonable to expect his intensity to spike in a fixture of this magnitude.

What’s more, McGregor has committed multiple fouls in two of Celtic’s last three top-flight assignments – both against sides at the wrong end of the table in the shape of Livingston and Kilmarnock.

It's also worth noting that the Celtic ace was guilty of at least one offence in seven of his ten appearances in this season’s Europa League, giving away multiple free-kicks in three of those contests.

On top of all that, the 32-year-old has been shown a yellow card in four of his last five Premiership appearances, including each of his previous three.

On that basis alone, I wouldn’t put anyone off considering McGregor to go into the book again at Ibrox at a best price of 19/5 with William Hill.

The prospect of McGregor finding himself in direct opposition to Rangers' Nico Raskin only strengthens the case for backing the Celtic skipper to commit a minimum of two fouls.

The all-action Belgian has been something of a foul magnet this season, drawing an average of 1.83 fouls per game in the Scottish Premiership.

So, with all things considered, McGregor looks well worth backing to overstep the mark at least twice on Sunday, while the booking angle also holds plenty of appeal at a bigger price.

Recommended Bets

  • Callum McGregor To Commit 2+ Fouls – 6/5 (PaddyPower)
  • Callum McGregor To Be Carded – 19/5 (William Hill)
