Portugal v Spain

After delivering another winning combination on Saturday, SlipsTips shares a Bet Builder ahead of Portugal's clash with Spain at the World Cup on Monday night.

Portugal vs Spain, Monday (20:00)

The Iberian derby between Portugal and Spain takes centre stage at the World Cup on Monday night at Dallas Stadium.

Portugal have yet to hit top gear at the 2026 World Cup, but they remain unbeaten after drawing two and winning one of their three group stage matches before edging past Croatia 2-1 in the last 32.

Spain, meanwhile, were held to a shock goalless draw by Cape Verde in their opening fixture but have since hit their stride, winning each of their last three matches, most recently cruising to a 3-0 victory over Austria.

Over 0.5 Spain Goals

Spain look very much like a side that are growing into the tournament and they look well placed to score at least once against Portugal on Monday night.

Luis de la Fuente's side blanked against Cape Verde in their opening fixture but have since racked up eight goals across their last three matches, including three in their comfortable win over Austria last time out. Spain were also free-scoring during World Cup qualifying, netting 21 goals across their six matches.

That doesn't bode well for a Portugal side that failed to keep the back door shut against DR Congo and also saw their defence breached by Croatia. It's also worth noting that these two sides met in last year's Nations League final, with Spain scoring twice in that contest.

Joao Cancelo To Commit 1+ Foul

The next leg of the Bet Builder is Joao Cancelo to commit at least one foul. The Portuguese right-back’s love of a strong tackle often lands him in trouble with match officials and that has certainly been the case across Portugal’s opening four World Cup matches. Indeed, Cancelo has already committed a combined total of five fouls in the tournament so far.

That theme also carried through qualification, with Cancelo being penalised at least once in all four of his appearances.

The 32-year-old is likely to be in an a direct battle with Spain’s Alex Baena, who was fouled twice against Austria in the previous round.

Marc Cucurella To Commit 1+ Foul

For the final instalment of the treble, I’m again going with another defender to commit a foul in the shape of Spain’s Marc Cucurella. The fiery full-back has averaged 1.25 fouls per game across his four appearances at the World Cup so far, overstepping the mark twice against both Austria and Saudi Arabia. Cucurella is a player who naturally plays on the edge and that should be on show in a game of this magnitude.

He could find himself tasked with trying to keep tabs on Portugal’s Pedro Neto, who has been fouled at least once in three of his four outings at the World Cup thus far.

These three selections combine to form a 4/5 bet builder that represents solid value.
