Can’t believe it’s the 3rd major on the golfing calendar already as we look forward to this week’s US Open at the North Course, Los Angeles Country Club, Los Angeles, California.
The 156 field with the top 60 including ties making the weekend will all be competing for a share of the $17.5M prize purse with the winner collecting the US Open crown & a winner cheque for a cool $3.15M.
How could we forget Fitzy’s US Open victory last year at The Country Club, Brookline? Not only was it Matt Fitzpatrick’s breakthrough maiden PGA title, he conquered the USA in style bagging his first major into the bargain. Fitzy will be in attendance to defend his crown this year & won’t give it up without a fight, the Englishman is currently available at 35/1 with BetVictor.
The North Course, Los Angeles Country Club will be playing 7,423 yards long this week, it’s a par 70 Parkland layout with sloped bentgrass greens & tough Bermuda rough. Birdie opportunities will be available for those slick hitters with higher Greens in Regulation figures so it is all about taking these birdies or better when available. It could be a lower-scoring affair than many anticipate as this is probably the easiest US Open set-up for a while.

Talking about majors let’s get back to this week's US Open and check the weather forecast.
It’s to be mainly sunny & warm throughout with very few cloudy intervals. Breezes aren’t really worth a mention peaking at around 8mph.
The US Open will be screened on Sky Sports Golf & Sky Sports Main Event with live coverage starting at 3pm on Thursday afternoon.
So let’s move on without further ado & narrow down the field to win the 123rd edition of the US Open.
Max Homa 28/1 EW Bet365 1-8 places
For my first and main selection to conquer Los Angeles Country Club, I’m going to look no further than Max Homa 28/1 EW Bet365 1-8 places. I shared this with my Telegram members on Saturday as it just makes so much sense to include the in-form Golden State Native. Yes indeed sir/madam, the clue is right there, Homs will be playing in familiar surroundings on a course he knows like the back of his hand.
Homa is currently 7th in the world rankings and also has that same number of Top 10 finishes in 2023. This includes the victory at the Farmers Insurance & runner-up at Genesis Invitational.
Homa arrives home with a whole host of PGA Tour Top 10 stats in the bag;
- 1st Par 3 Birdie or Better Leader
- 1st Consecutive Par 3 Birdies
- 2nd Par 3 Scoring Average
Now do you get where I’m coming from here with five Par 3’s – making that a possible 20 in total.
I haven’t stopped quite yet with Homa’s magic bag of tricks;
- 3rd Putting Average
- 4th Birdie of Better Conversion
- 5th One Putt Percentage
- 5th SG Total, 6th SG Total
- 7th Approaches from 75-100 yards
- 8th Scrambling from 10-20 yards
Honestly, I could go on & on but you get the picture, those stats I’ve just provided are all inside the Top 10 amongst the world’s golfing elite.
If that’s not enough to tempt you then maybe the fact that Homa holds the course record shooting 61 around here in 2013 as an amateur.
Get a ticket with the Max Homa written all over it to win this year's US Open in his own playground.
Viktor Hovland 16/1 EW Boylesports 1-8 places.
For my next best selection to scoop the 3rd major on the golfing calendar, I’m going to point you all in the direction of Viktor Hovland 16/1 EW Boylesports 1-8 places.
I tipped the 25-year-old super kid from Oslo to win the Memorial Tournament at 20//for my Telegram members, this was only a fortnight ago & I’m not ignoring the Norwegian kid this time out. I said ignore Hovland at your peril last time out & it’s more of the same this week in California where course and conditions will most certainly suit & play right into his game. Arriving fresh from the W at Muirfield Village should give him all the confidence he needs to bag his first major.
With nine Top 20 finishes this year alone, which include runner-up at the PGA Championship & another five decent performances inside the Top 10. I’d say definitely ignore Hovland at your peril.
On the stats front I simply can’t write them all down for Hovland but what I will say is that he’s sitting inside the Top 10 for almost every ball-striking stat needed to be best of the best at Los Angeles Country Club.
Viktor Hovland is my next-best tip to win the 2023 US Open.
It could be California Dreaming but not on a winter's day as Hovland continues to hover around hoovering everything in his way AGAIN.
Patrick Cantlay 18/1 EW BetVictor 1-7 places
For my final outright tip this week I’m going to single out Patrick Cantlay 18/1 EW BetVictor 1-7 places. If I’m being perfectly honest here Cantlay can be irritating at times but you just can’t ever rule out the 31yrs old, especially with the unbelievable stats he carries everywhere. 1st Total Driving, 1st Going for the Green, 1st Scrambling, 2nd SG Off the Tee, 3rd Birdie or Better Percentage and 8th Putting from 10 -12 ft.
Every one of those stats is the ingredients for the perfect recipe, now wait for it I’m building up with a food element in mind. It could be Patrick Cantlay who’s right in the mix from the get-go in front of an enthusiastic crowd in his home state.
If in the mood the Californian has already proven he can turn up at majors with a dozen finishes inside the Top 25 at double that number of attempts. Cantlay adores this stunning venue where he also went low when at college shooting 62.
Patrick Cantlay is going to win a major soon, off that I’m certain so why not this coming Sunday evening in the California sunshine in front of all his home support? This is where Cantlay belongs, Surf & Turf anyone?
Good luck everyone & enjoy the US Open whoever you’re cheering on. It would be amazing to see you on my Telegram channel by clicking the link below. If you subscribe before 8 pm tomorrow night (Wednesday) then you’ll be allocated a player to win the US Open with a cash prize giveaway.
