While many punters naturally gravitate towards backing a winner, betting on a draw can be a smart and rewarding alternative.

This is because bookmakers typically assign bigger odds to stalemates, which occur less often than victories for either team.

With that in mind, let’s examine this weekend’s fixtures and identify the games where draw outcomes present the best value.

Cardiff vs Charlton (Saturday, 12:30)

Cardiff City and Charlton could prove difficult to separate when they meet in the English Championship on Saturday.

Brian Barry-Murphy’s men are still searching for their first league win since returning to the second tier, but they have drawn four of their opening seven games, including all three at home.

As for Charlton, they have see three of their last four Championship matches finish level, including each of the previous two, so another share of the spoils looks worth siding with in the Welsh capital.

East Fife vs Montrose (Saturday, 15:00)

East Fife have been Scottish League One’s draw specialists this season, and they could make life difficult for an in-form Montrose side at Bayview on Saturday.

Dick Campbell’s men have drawn five of their opening six league games, including each of the previous four.

Montrose are beginning to motor and will arrive in Fife in fine fettle, but the hosts have already frustrated two of the division’s big hitters by holding Ross County and Hamilton at Bayview. The Gable Endies may therefore have to settle for a point.

Bournemouth vs Liverpool (Sunday, 14:00)

Bournemouth’s clash with Liverpool stands out as one of the strongest draw candidates in the Premier League this weekend.

The Cherries recorded a whopping 18 draws last season, comfortably the highest total in the Premier League. The early signs point towards more of the same under Marco Rose, with Bournemouth drawing three of their opening four league games, including each of the previous three.

Liverpool have followed a similar pattern, with three of their four league matches ending all square, including last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Fulham. Andoni Iraola’s return to the Vitality Stadium could therefore end with honours even on Sunday.
