Fulham vs Sheffield United

, KO: 15:00 Oct 7, 2023, Craven Cottage
Sheffield United

Fulham host Sheffield United in a Premier League fixture on Saturday with both teams still trying to find their best form. Sheffield have actually been one of the worst sides this season and the Cottagers will fancy their chances of claiming the upper hand on Saturday.

It has not been a particularly smooth campaign for Fulham, who are struggling to replicate last season’s displays. They are currently in the bottom half of the table having claimed just two wins from seven Premier League matches so far.

Fulham head into Saturday’s clash off the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea in their previous Premier League fixture. They struggled to create much with their best chance falling to Sasa Lukic, whose effort was saved by the goalkeeper.

Things may appear tough for Fulham at the moment but they have done some good works at Craven Cottage, with the defeat to Chelsea ending a three match unbeaten run at home. Marco Silva’s claimed two wins in that run, although they have kept just one clean sheet in their last six home matches across all competitions.

Fulham may be struggling to find their best form but Sheffield United have been utterly abysmal so far. They are yet to pick up a single win across all competitions this season and have spent much of the campaign rooted to the foot of the table.

Sheffield United have lost six of their seven Premier League matches so far and were beaten 2-0 at West Ham in their previous fixture. They struggled to cope with the quality of the Hammers and could only muster two attempts on target.

A major problem for Sheffield United is an inability to maintain their discipline at the back as they boast the worst defensive record in the Premier League so far. Among the results for Paul Heckingbottom’s team is an 8-0 home defeat to Newcastle United.

How the bookies view it

Fulham have been installed as overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 8/13 by bet365. An unlikely victory for Sheffield United is valued at 5/1 by BoyleSports while a draw is set at odds of 14/5 by Paddy Power.

Head to head

Sheffield United have a 12-9 advantage with eight draws from 28 previous matches against Fulham. They also did the double during the 2021-22 season, claiming a 1-0 victory at Craven Cottage before running out 4-0 winners in the reverse fixture.

Players to watch

Fulham have not been particularly prolific in attack but will be keen to capitalise on Sheffield United's defensive problems. Carlos Vinicius has looked lively in attack and could be worth keeping an eye on at 19/10 with William Hill.

Cameron Archer is often the liveliest player for Sheffield United and often troubles defenders with his pace and movement. The attacker is expected to cause Fulham problems and is priced at 19/5 by William Hill to find the net on Friday.

Anything else catch the eye?

Fulham and Sheffield United have been unconvincing defensively this season and both teams could be backed to score at 19/20 by bet365. Sheffield have seen over 2.5 goals in two of their last three matches and a repeat is priced at 10/11 with BetVictor while 888Sport is offering odds of 12/5 for over 3.5 goals.

With Fulham priced at minimal odds for a straight home victory, a win and over 2.5 goals could be considered at 8/5 with Paddy Power.
