Everton vs Manchester United

, KO: 14:00 , Hill Dickinson Stadium
Manchester United

Manchester United will look to record back-to-back wins in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Merseyside to take on Everton.

Manchester United made a dismal start to the campaign, as they suffered a shock 2-0 defeat away at last season’s Championship playoff winners Hull City.

It looked as if they were going to suffer another disaster against another one of the promoted teams as they trailed Ipswich Town at Old Trafford last weekend.

However, a couple of Ipswich mistakes and an inspired Bruno Fernandes ensured the Red Devils eventually ran out comfortable 5-2 winners.

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes saw his Everton side begin the Premier League campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to Crystal Palace.

It did look as if the Toffees were going to suffer defeat at Bournemouth last weekend, but a stoppage-time strike from defender James Tarkowski salvaged a point.

How the bookies view it: Manchester United favourites

Manchester United are favourites to back up last weekend’s success over Ipswich Town, with bet365 pricing an away success at 11/10.

The Toffees are 23/10 to record consecutive home wins to start the season, whilst the draw is 5/2.

Head to head: Red Devils tend to dominate

Manchester United have tended to dominate this fixture in the Premier League era, with the Red Devils winning 42 and losing just 11 of their 64 meetings (W42-D11-L11).

That includes five wins and just one defeat across their last eight trips to the blue side of Merseyside (W5-D2-L1) – including a 0-1 win on their first visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium last season.

Players to watch: Bruno to bag again?

Bruno Fernandes had a terrific personal season for the Red Devils last term, with the Portuguese international scoring nine goals and recording a record-breaking 21 assists.

The newly crowned PFA Men’s Players’ Player of the Year continued that form by scoring a stunning hat-trick against Ipswich Town last weekend, and the 10/11 on offer at bet365 for him to Score or Assist looks excellent value.

Predicted line-ups:

Everton will be without the injured Christian Norgaard, but new signings Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Jack Grealish are both available.

Manchester United will be missing the injured Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, Carlos Baleba and Amad Diallo.

Everton: Pickford, Rohl, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Armstrong, Garner, George, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish, Barry

Manchester United: Lammens, Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw, Mainoo, Tielemans, Mbuemo, Fernandes, Rashford, Cunha

Anything else catch the eye?

Manchester United showed how dangerous they are going forward last weekend as they put five past Ipswich, but they remain vulnerable defensively, shipping multiple goals in both matches against the newly promoted sides.

Everton’s matches generally aren’t known to be high-scoring – and despite the away side winning both fixtures last season 0-1 – I don’t envisage either side keeping a clean sheet in Merseyside on Sunday.

Both Teams to Score pays just 4/7, but combining it with Over 2.5 Goals pays a more backable 10/11 at bet365.
