Has the time finally come for Barcelona to achieve something in the Champions League again? The Blaugrana haven’t looked this strong at the start of a season for years, and their positive record against Dutch sides will certainly spur them on in their first home match against Feyenoord.
Barcelona’s form is nothing short of daunting. Four wins in the first four rounds of La Liga, with a goal difference of 17–2. In three of those four matches, they scored five goals each.
Their home form is even more daunting. Last season, Barcelona suffered just two home defeats in all competitions – against PSG and Atletico Madrid. All their other home fixtures resulted in dominant victories, regardless of the opposition.
Feyenoord, however, will certainly not go down without a fight, given their decent form. They are currently unbeaten in the Eredivisie after five rounds and can also boast a serious attacking threat.
They have scored 13 goals in their five matches, which is also impressive. It’s just that Barcelona are a cut above.
How the bookies view it: A staggering home advantage
It was obvious that the bookmakers would back the Blaugrana, but we certainly didn’t expect such an astronomical difference in the odds.
At the moment, you can back Barcelona at 1/10, whilst a Feyenoord win is priced at a massive 22/1. If you reckon the visitors have a chance of snatching at least a point, a draw is priced at 9/1.
Recent head-to-head: Barcelona usually thrash the Dutch teams
It has been over 50 years since Barcelona and Feyenoord last met in the European Cup, in 1974.
Since then, both teams have faced sides from the other country on numerous occasions, with their records differing considerably.
Barcelona have suffered just two defeats in their last 18 matches against Dutch sides, whilst Feyenoord have secured only two wins in their last 11 against Spanish sides.
Players to watch: What have they been feeding Raphinha?
It seems that quite a few of Barcelona’s players have set their sights on having the best season of their careers.
Raphinha, at least, is in the form of his life, having scored six goals in Barcelona’s first four matches. Those six goals are half of his total from the whole of last season.
Meanwhile, Anthony Gordon has made a phenomenal start to life away from the Premier League, and looks set to justify the huge fee of €80.0m paid for him.
So far, he has four assists in four matches, whereas in his previous two Premier League seasons with Newcastle, he had just six assists per campaign.

Anything else catch the eye?
With such a difference in the odds, almost none of the standard markets make much sense. For example, the bookmakers are offering just 3/20 for over 2.5 goals, which is shockingly low.
The big question is whether Feyenoord will manage to score, but in my view they’ll be extremely motivated after missing out on the Champions League last season.
They’re offering around 19/20 for over 2.5 goals and both teams to score, and I intend to take advantage of that.
Corners for Barcelona are also an option, given their attacking style of play. For example, in their two home La Liga matches, they’ve averaged 10.5 corners, so the over 6.5 line is a good bet, especially if Feyenoord defend better than expected.
