CRYSTAL Palace will be looking to get back to winning ways when they welcome Newcastle to Selhurst Park on Friday night.
It's been a mixed start to the season for Roy Hodson's side, who are 11th in the Premier League standings after nine rounds of fixtures.
The Eagles were edged out 1-0 by Burnley on Monday, on an evening where the visitors undoubtedly missed inspirational winger Wilfried Zaha.
Having said that, Palace have regularly punched above their weight under Hodgson's astute management and the capital club will be keen to get back on track when Newcastle come to town on Friday night.
The Magpies were comfortably beaten by Chelsea at home last Saturday, on an afternoon where all three of my recommended bets landed, and Steve Bruce will be hoping he can inspire a response from his side at Selhurst Park.
Bruce quietly impressed on Tyneside last season while keeping many of his critics at bay, but the knives could be out for the Toon boss if he fails to halt his teams two-game losing streak in south London.
Outright Betting
Crystal Palace have avoided defeat in each of their last six home matches against Newcastle and the hosts are 13/10 shots with PaddyPower to collect all three points on Friday night.
Newcastle have lost just one of their four top-flight road trips this term but the visitors are the unfancied underdogs here at 5/2 with Bet 365, while the draw is priced up at 23/10 with the same firm.
Betting Angles
Each of the last seven meetings between these two sides have featured fewer that three goals and I suspect another low-scoring affair could be in store at Selhurst Park
What's more, Newcastle's last five Premier League away fixtures have produced less than three strikes and this is reflected in the odds of a repeat here at a general 4/6.
Instead I'm going to head to the Bet Builder market and combine under four match goals and each team to collect over zero cards, which is a 20/23 shot with Bet 365.
Seven of Newcastle's nine top-flight tussles this term have featured less than four match goals and the under 3.5 goals play has landed in six of Palace's nine Premier League outings to date.
With that in mind, I'm happy to back under four match goals on Friday night but I'll also add both teams to pick up one card to the recommended Bet Builder in what should be a closely-fought contest.
That line of thought is going to see me recommend another Bet Builder by combining under two match goals in the fist half and under two match goals in the second half.
The above-mentioned Bet Builder will present us with a 21/20 punt with Bet 365 – a bet that has banked profit in three of the last four Premier League games that these two teams have contested collectively.
I'll also have a speculative punt on Crystal Palace right-back Nathaniel Clyne to be carded at what looks like a nice value play at 15/2 with Bet 365.
Clyne has been given the chance to revive his career at Selhurst Park after an injury-ravaged spell at Liverpool and he could be given the thankless task of trying to shackle Magpies speed machine Allan Saint-Maximin, the third most fouled player in the Premier League.
