Brentford vs West Ham United

, KO: 15:00 Sep 28, 2024, Gtech Community Stadium
West Ham United

Both Brentford and West Ham United will be bidding to return to winning ways in the Premier League when the London rivals collide at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Thomas Frank’s team took the lead away at Tottenham inside just 22 seconds last weekend before going on to lose 3-1, bringing up my recommended Bet Builder along the way.

That defeat means the Bees have lost back-to-back matches in the Premier League for the first time this season, though both of those games were away from home.

Back at their west London base this weekend, Brentford will look to get back in the winning groove by banking all three points against West Ham.

The Hammers put in a defensive horror show last Saturday when being swept aside 3-0 by Chelsea at the London Stadium, a pitiful performance that has seen their relegation odds plummet.

Things went from bad to worse for Julen Lopetegui’s side in the EFL Cup in midweek, as they were trounced 5-1 by Liverpool at Anfield.

How the bookies view it: Bees to get their buzz back

Brentford – who have won each of their previous two Premier League home games this season – are 23/20 favourites on Betano.

West Ham have collected each of their four Premier League points on their travels this term but the bookies odds suggest they will come away empty-handed here, with a Hammers success trading at 2/1 (Betano) while a point apiece has been priced up at 13/5 (Betano).

Head to head: Not a happy hunting ground for the Hammers

West Ham have crashed to defeat in each of their previous three visits to this venue whilst on Premier League duty.

In fact, the Hammers’ 4-2 win over Brentford at the London Stadium last season is their only top-flight triumph against the Bees in the previous six league meetings between the pair.

Players to watch: Mbeumo to make his mark again?

Bryan Mbeumo took his tally for the season to four last week when opening the scoring against Spurs. The Brentford ace looks worth supporting here for either a goal or an assist at 4/5 on Bet 365.

Carlos Soler has been carded in each of his two Premier League appearances for West Ham and he looks overpriced at 11/2 (Bet 365) to tackle his way into trouble again this weekend.

Predicted line-ups

Christian Norgaard missed the Bees' 3-1 defeat at Tottenham last weekend with a minor injury but Brentford boss Frank is confident that his captain will be back to lead the team on Saturday.

West Ham’s Edson Alvarez is suspended for Saturday’s trip across the capital following his red card against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Brentford: Flekken; Ajer, Collins, Pinnock, Van den Berg, Lewis-Potter; Janelt, Norgaard; Carvalho; Mbeumo, Schade

West Ham: Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Kilman, Emerson; Soucek, Soler; Kudus, Paqueta, Summerville; Bowen

Anything else catch the eye?

Brentford are a tempting proposition at the above-mentioned price but I’m going to opt for a more conservative option by coupling up the hosts on the Double Chance alongside the aforementioned Norgaard to commit at least one foul at 23/25 (UniBet).

The Bees have avoided defeat in seven of their last eight Premier League home games in front of their own supporters, with the only major blot on their copybook a 4-2 to defeat to Newcastle in a final day dead-rubber last season.

As such, I’m happy to keep the home team onside here, but to bolster the odds, I’ll go with Norgaard to commit a minimum of one foul – something the Dane has done in four of his five appearances this season so far.
