Welcome back to MFT’s 10-1,000 betting challenge, where we aim for a 100x return on the original investment via a small stake betting strategy, prioritising low risk and low odds en route to a long-term target.
While this column is dedicated to high-probability tips, there is no guarantee of profit. If playing along, you should consider your own budget and confidence in the tip provided, and make your own decision whether to follow, cash out or continue at every stage. 18+, please gamble responsibly.
We will use a unit system for our stakes, allowing readers to set their own unit value that suits their own budget. For the sake of simplicity, for us, 1 unit = £1.
We will continue to transparently track our progress as far as we go on the path to 1,000, but will refresh our main tracking stake back to the starting point every time we surpass 100 units – a 10x ROI.
For the sake of consistency, all tips are placed using odds from bet365. It worth pointing out that with Bet365 we can paid out if our selection goes into a lead by two or more goals.
Bet 1 – Argentina vs Egypt – Tuesday 7th July at 5pm
Argentina to win is the standout bet in this Round of 16 tie. The rating gap is too large to ignore. Argentina sit at 2148 on Elo, while Egypt are down at 1742, giving Argentina a 71.2% win probability on neutral ground. Only Argentina's previous knockout tie against Cape Verde has produced a bigger gap at this tournament.
The attacking profile is strong. Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez have helped Argentina average 1.92 xG per game across the tournament. They opened with a controlled 1.26 xG display against Algeria, then improved with 2.36 against Austria and 2.13 against Jordan. That shows a side building rhythm rather than relying on one result.
The defensive numbers support the bet as well. Argentina have allowed just 0.54 xGA per game and kept clean sheets in two of their three group matches. Egypt carry more risk going the other way, with 1.33 xGA per game, the highest of any remaining side apart from Paraguay.
Mohamed Salah gives Egypt a threat, but their 0.84 xG against Iran showed how limited they can be. With Argentina projected at 1.62 expected goals, Argentina to win is the most reliable angle.
