Welcome back to MFT’s 10-1,000 betting challenge, where we aim for a 100x return on the original investment via a small stake betting strategy, prioritising low risk and low odds en route to a long-term target.

While this column is dedicated to high-probability tips, there is no guarantee of profit. If playing along, you should consider your own budget and confidence in the tip provided, and make your own decision whether to follow, cash out or continue at every stage. 18+, please gamble responsibly.

We will use a unit system for our stakes, allowing readers to set their own unit value that suits their own budget. For the sake of simplicity, for us, 1 unit = £1.

We will continue to transparently track our progress as far as we go on the path to 1,000, but will refresh our main tracking stake back to the starting point every time we surpass 100 units – a 10x ROI.

For the sake of consistency, all tips are placed using odds from bet365. It worth pointing out that with Bet365 we can paid out if our selection goes into a lead by two or more goals.

Bet 4 – Argentina vs England – Wednesday 15th July at 8pm

History is firmly on this side. Ten of the last thirteen World Cup semi-finals, including last night's France against Spain, have finished with both teams carded, a rate of 77%.

The stakes of these games tighten every challenge and raise the tempo of every duel, and Wednesday carries more history than most. Antonio Rattín's dismissal in 1966 and Diego Maradona's Hand of God twenty years later already sit underneath this fixture, and the Falklands runs quietly beneath both.

Lionel Scaloni called it just a game of football within moments of the draw, even as his own dressing room reportedly sang about winning it for Las Malvinas.

My own tournament data backs the trend. England have had both sides carded in four of six games this summer, Argentina in three of six, and their combined discipline gap is the interesting part. England sit at 1.33 cards per game, Argentina at 1.0, among the cleanest in the competition, but that clean record has mostly come against Cape Verde, Jordan and Egypt, nobody who tested them the way Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane will.

Ismail Elfath takes charge, his fourth match of the tournament and known for letting things go rather than reaching for his pocket. Even a lenient referee has struggled to keep two full teams out of his notebook in a semi-final of this magnitude, and I don't expect Wednesday to be the exception.

  • Bet: Both teams to be carded
  • Odds: 1/4
  • 22.80 units returns 28.50
