Argentina v Switzerland

Greg MacLean shares a Bet Builder ahead of Argentina’s World Cup quarter-final clash with Switzerland in the early hours of Sunday morning.

⚽️ Argentina vs Switzerland, Sunday (02:00)

The last of the World Cup quarter-finals takes place in Missouri in the early hours of Sunday morning as reigning champions Argentina take on Switzerland.

After breezing through Group J with a 100% record, Argentina had to survive a couple of mighty scares against debutants Cape Verde in the Round of 32 and Egypt in the Round of 16, with La Albiceleste being pegged back twice before eventually prevailing in extra time against the tournament debutants, before turning around a two-goal deficit from the 79th minute onwards against the Pharaohs.

After topping a relatively soft group containing co-hosts Canada, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Qatar, Switzerland defeated a poor Algeria side 2-0 in the Round of 32, before prevailing on penalties against Colombia in the Round of 16 following a goalless draw.

Argentina to Qualify

As alluded to, Argentina survived a couple of mighty scares against Cape Verde and Egypt in the previous two rounds after cruising through the group stages.

Whilst they have shown their quality at times, La Albiceleste have also shown their fighting spirit and their powers of recovery in North America this summer, and I’m expecting them to find their way past the Swiss.

Lionel Messi to Score or Assist

Lionel Messi once again helped turn around the game for Argentina against Egypt in the previous round, as his cross set up Christian Romero before scoring a stunning goal four minutes later to level the tie.

The Inter Miami maestro has now scored eight goals and provided one assist across his opening five matches in North America this summer – scoring in all five matches – and if Argentina scores, there’s an extremely high chance he will be involved.

Over 1.5 Goals

To round off the bet builder, I’m happy to throw in Over 1.5 Goals.

Argentina’s five matches in North America this summer have produced an impressive 16 goals in regulation time, with Over 1.5 goals landing on each occasion, whilst 4/5 (80%) of the Red-Crosses’ fixtures in the tournament have produced a minimum of two goals.

Recommended Bet:

  • Argentina to Qualify
  • Lionel Messi to Score or Assist
  • Over 1.5 Goals
  • Pays 20/23 (bet365)
