Last Player Standing is a betting competition where a group of people each put in a stake and predict one team to win in a competition each week.
If that team wins, they progress into the next round, if they draw or lose, they are eliminated.
Each team can only be picked once throughout the game; eg, if you pick Liverpool to win in week one, you cannot pick them again during that edition of Last Player Standing.
The goal is to be the final player left at the end of it all. The winner takes the full pot.
This weekend, it’s the Premier League finale, and it’s a straight shootout between Tottenham and West Ham for survival, while some of the European qualification places are still to be settled.
This week’s best Last Player Standing tip: Manchester City
Manchester City can round off their Premier League campaign with victory over Aston Villa on Sunday. While Pep Guardiola’s side ultimately fell short in the title race this season, they come into this curtain-closer in impressive form, losing just one of their last 25 Premier League matches, winning 16 of those. What’s more, City have taken top honours in 14 of their 18 top-flight tussles at the Etihad this season.
As for Aston Villa, they make the trip to Manchester having already secured Champions League qualification courtesy of Wednesday night’s Europa League success. It should also be noted that Unai Emery's side have won just one of their last nine Premier League matches away from Villa Park, suffering four defeats during that stretch.
MFT’s top Last Player Standing pick: Manchester City
As mentioned, Man City look like the standout selection from the Premier League’s final-day fixture list. Pep Guardiola’s final game in charge should ensure there is no shortage of motivation from the hosts, who will be eager to send their manager off in style.
Villa, meanwhile, have already achieved their main domestic objective for the season after Wednesday night’s Europa League triumph secured Champions League football. Add in the celebrations that followed that midweek success, and the visitors could arrive at the Etihad feeling slightly leggy.
