Last Player Standing is a betting competition where a group of people each put in a stake and predict one team to win in a competition each week.

If that team wins, they progress into the next round, if they draw or lose, they are eliminated.

Each team can only be picked once throughout the game; eg, if you pick Liverpool to win in week one, you cannot pick them again during that edition of Last Player Standing.

The goal is to be the final player left at the end of it all. The winner takes the full pot.

The 2026/27 Premier League season kicks off this weekend, which means every Last Player Standing entrant starts from the same position: a clean slate, the full 20 team pool available, and nobody eliminated yet. Gameweek 1 still throws up plenty to think about, with three sides freshly promoted (Hull City, Coventry City and Ipswich Town) landing straight back in against established opposition.

This week's best Last Player Standing tip: Arsenal

Arsenal open the defence of their Premier League title at home to Coventry City on Friday night, and it's hard to construct a more favourable opener for a Last Player Standing pick. Mikel Arteta's side head into the campaign full of confidence after a strong preseason, and the champions traditionally get the honour of kicking off the new season.

Coventry, meanwhile, arrive at the Emirates as one of three newly promoted clubs, and sides making their first trip back to the top division rarely relish facing the reigning champions on their opening assignment. The Sky Blues will have their work cut out just containing Arsenal's attacking threat.

Best ‘Last Player Standing' selections ranked for Premier League gameweek 1

  • Arsenal (H vs Coventry City)
  • Manchester City (H vs AFC Bournemouth)
  • Manchester United (A vs Hull City)
  • Brentford (H vs Tottenham Hotspur)
  • Brighton & Hove Albion (H vs Aston Villa)
  • Chelsea (A vs Fulham)
  • Everton (H vs Crystal Palace)
  • Nottingham Forest (H vs Leeds United)
  • Ipswich Town (H vs Sunderland)
  • Sunderland (A vs Ipswich Town)
  • Leeds United (A vs Nottingham Forest)
  • Crystal Palace (A vs Everton)
  • Fulham (H vs Chelsea)
  • Aston Villa (A vs Brighton & Hove Albion)
  • Hull City (A vs Manchester United)
  • AFC Bournemouth (A vs Manchester City)
  • Newcastle United (H vs Liverpool)
  • Liverpool (A vs Newcastle United)
  • Tottenham Hotspur (A vs Brentford)
  • Coventry City (A vs Arsenal)

With every team still available and no form guide to lean on yet, gameweek 1 is really a chance to bank a relatively safe pick while it's there. Nottingham Forest vs Leeds is the standout coin flip on this card, so anyone drawn to either side there should treat it as the higher risk option rather than a banker this early in the pool.
