Two clubs in contrasting form in the Irish top flight meet at Oriel Park on Friday night as newly-promoted Dundalk host out-of-form Dundalk in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Ciaran Kilduff’s hosts are the second-highest scorers in the Irish top flight, firing in 22 goals across their opening 13 matches, with 13 (59%) of them coming in front of their supporters.
The Railwaymen Have failed to score just twice since their return to the Irish top flight, scoring 2+ goals in seven (54%) of them – including in four of their past five at home – and will be confident of breaching a Shelbourne backline that has kept just two clean sheets in the league this season, shipping multiple goals in each of their last four and six of their past nine.
Ex-Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United defender, Joey O’Brien, has seen his side score 19 goals across their opening 12 matches in the LOI Premier Division this term, with eight (42%) of them coming across their five road trips.
The Reds have blanked just once in the league this season – scoring on multiple occasions in three of their past four and seven of their last 10 – and will look to continue their impressive goal-scoring record against a Dundalk defence that’s kept just three clean sheets in the league this season.

Shelbourne’s opening 12 matches in the LOI Premier Division have averaged a league-high 3.33 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals landing in each of their past four and eight of their previous 10.
Dundalk’s opening 13 matches since their immediate return to the Irish top flight have averaged 3.08 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in six of their last 10.
What’s more, these two clubs have already faced off twice in league and cup this month, with those clashes producing nine goals – with Over 2.5 Goals landings on each occasion – and another high-scoring clash looks likely at Oriel Park on Friday night.
