This weekend's EFL bets focus on two League One fixtures and one game from League Two.
Peterborough United face a Sheffield Wednesday side whose strong headline numbers require closer examination following their 7-2 win over Bromley.
Bristol Rovers meet Rotherham United after producing the best underlying figures in League Two, while Wigan Athletic and Stockport County bring contrasting results into a fixture involving two productive attacks.
Here are this weekend's three EFL best bets.
Peterborough United vs Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday head to London Road with three wins from four league matches, while Peterborough United have collected four points and failed to score in three of their opening four games. The visitors are 6/5 to win, a price carrying an implied probability of 45.5%.
Wednesday lead League One for both xG and xPTS. They have generated 11.28 xG, an average of 2.82 per match, while allowing 4.56 xGA. Their expected return of 10.30 points is supported by 11 goals, 22 shots on target and 14 big chances.
Those totals include the 7-2 win over Bromley, so it is important to separate one exceptional result from the wider sample. Wednesday still created 6.75 xG across their other three matches, an average of 2.25, and won both away games. They opened with a 2-1 victory at Leyton Orient before producing the same scoreline at Wycombe.
Peterborough have struggled to create sustained pressure. Their four matches have returned 5.12 xG and 5.92 xGA, leaving them with a 46% ratio. They have averaged six shots inside the box and produced fewer than two big chances per game.
A 2-1 home win over Mansfield supplied their only goals and victory. Peterborough lost 2-0 at Bradford and 4-0 at Blackpool before drawing 0-0 with Stevenage, extending their run without scoring to two matches.
Wednesday’s Bromley performance inflates their headline numbers, but their away results and remaining xG output still support the visitors. Sheffield Wednesday to win at 6/5 is the selection.

Bristol Rovers vs Rotherham United
The strongest underlying record in League Two belongs to Bristol Rovers, who welcome Rotherham United after taking nine points from their first four matches. Rovers are 3/4 to win, which implies a 57.1% chance of victory.
Their results include a 3-2 defeat at York, followed by wins over Newport County, Crawley Town and Colchester United. They scored nine times across those three victories and kept clean sheets in the latest two, showing improvement after conceding five goals during their opening pair of fixtures.
Bristol Rovers average a division-high 2.92 xG while allowing 1.01 xGA. That gives them an xG ratio of 74% and an xPTS total of 9.31, with both figures ranking first. Their attacking control is also reflected by averages of 22.5 shots, 15.75 attempts inside the box and 6.25 efforts on target.
Rotherham have scored in all four matches, but their defensive record presents the main concern. They are yet to keep a clean sheet and have conceded six goals from 5.00 xGA.
Their latest game ended 2-2 at Tranmere, where Tom Bradshaw’s penalty in the sixth minute of stoppage time rescued a point. Rotherham generated 1.75 xG from 14 shots, although they needed Aaron Nemane’s 84th-minute equaliser and Bradshaw’s late spot kick to avoid defeat.
Rotherham carry an attacking threat and average 1.78 xG, but Rovers hold a clear advantage in chance creation, defensive control and xPTS. Bristol Rovers to win at 3/4 is the selection.

Wigan Athletic vs Stockport County
Goals are the focus when Wigan Athletic meet Stockport County, with the two sides producing 24 goals across their eight combined league matches. Over 2.5 goals is available at 10/13, an implied probability of 56.5%.
Wigan have generated 2.42 xG per game, the second-highest average in League One. Their matches contain 4.10 xG on average once chances at both ends are combined, while their 7.21 xPTS is more than double their return of three actual points.
The issue has been converting pressure into results. Wigan lost 3-2 at Cambridge before defeats against Leyton Orient and AFC Wimbledon. They recovered by beating Milton Keynes Dons 3-1, ending a run of two matches without scoring. Their four fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals twice, while they are yet to keep a clean sheet.
Stockport’s games have averaged 3.75 actual goals, with nine scored and six conceded. That figure is influenced by their 5-1 victory over Wycombe, but their underlying numbers still point towards an open contest. They average 1.91 xG and 1.41 xGA, leaving 3.32 expected goals per match.
Their opening four results were a 3-1 win at Plymouth, a 2-1 defeat against Blackpool, the heavy Wycombe victory and a 2-0 loss at Luton. Three of those matches contained at least three goals.
The model estimates a 60.5% chance of over 2.5 goals, above the market’s implied figure. Wigan’s attacking output, lack of clean sheets and Stockport’s scoring record support another match with three or more goals.
