SlipTips loves an acca so he turns his attention the World Cup as he shares his predictions for a World Cup Group Stage Accumulator.
Netherlands to Win Group A
The Netherlands have been a resurgent force under Louis Van Gaal and that has raised expectations ahead of their return to the World Cup stage after an eight-year absence.
A favourable draw has added further fuel to the fire, with the Oranje fair favourites to finish above Ecuador, Qatar and Senegal at the top of the Group A tree.
While the Dutch could be home and dry by the time Matchday 3 rolls around, they should still have the added incentive of finishing top of the section to increase their chances of securing a more favourable last-16 draw.
With all of this in mind, coupled with the awesome array of talent within their ranks, Holland look a solid pick to claim top honours in Group A
Iran to Finish Bottom of Group B
Iran’s World Cup dreams were extinguished in the group stage in both 2014 and 2018 and they could suffer a similar fate in the latest global showpiece.
Team Melli made the audacious decision to dump manager Dragan Skocic as late as September, with Carlos Queiroz reprising his role as Iran head coach.
Those off-field issues have plagued the Iranians’ preparations so the aforementioned Queiroz could struggle to get the best out of a reportedly divided and hostile dressing room.
What’s more, a daunting group-stage draw, pitting them against England, Wales and USA, makes Iran the obvious selection to finish bottom of the section.
Saudi Arabia to Finish Bottom of Group C
Reaching back-to-back World Cups is a major achievement in itself for Saudi Arabia but things could turn sour if they don’t make a strong start.
Herve Renard’s posse have been placed in what looks like an unforgiving pool where they will come up against Argentina, Mexico and Poland.
The Green Falcons will at least have the advantage of having the World Cup on their doorstep so they won’t have to acclimatise to a new time zone and climate.
Ultimately, though, the Saudis are the second-lowest ranked team in the tournament and are therefore heavily fancied to collect the Group C wooden spoon.
Serbia to Qualify From Group G
Serbia finished third in their group at the 2018 World Cup but their current crop of stars could give them a real shot at reaching the last-16 this time around.
The Eagles boast some serious quality in their squad, with their starting XI stacked with household names and talented players who ply their trade in Europe’s elite leagues.
In finishing above Portugal in qualifying whilst going unbeaten in the process, Dragan Stojkovic’s side have to enter the dark horse conservation.
Brazil are undoubtedly the team to beat in Group G, however, the Serbians look well-placed to seize their chance to end a run of three consecutive group-stage exits.
