Sunday’s Football Tips: Punters Pray for a Super Sunday After a Stale Saturday

GOALS were in very short supply on Saturday which is never good news for punters, but would have left the bookies rubbing their hands at the prospect of accas up and down the country being ripped up.

The stats from England's top four leagues make for staggeringly painful reading for goals backers;

• 62 goals scored in 33 matches – Averaging just 1.87 goals per match
• Both Teams to Score landed in 12 of 33 (36.4%)
• Over 2.5 Goals landed in just 7 of 33 (21.2%)
• 14 of 66 teams scored 2+ (21.2%)
• 24 of 66 teams failed to score (36.4%)
• Not a single match in 9 League Two games saw Over 2.5 Goals

The Scottish Premiership didn't fare much better serving up two 0-0 draws and just eight goals in the five matches which would've been much lower had it not been for the four goals scored by Ross County against Aberdeen – and who could have predicted that!

Sunday's Tips

Fans been anticpating the top of the table clash between Liverpool and Man Utd all week so let's hope it lives up to expectations.

But the trends don't look good. Five of the last six meetings at Anfield have seen under 2.5 goals and neither side is currently firing on all cylinders in front of goal. Liverpool have scored 11 in their last five league matches but seven of those were at Selhurst Park while United have only scored two in their last three matches in all competitions.

Also on Sunday Spurs have the chance to jump back up to fourth in the table, at least for a few hours, if they can win at bottom club Sheffield Utd. The Blades noched their first win of the season at home to Newcastle in midweek but Spurs will be a much tougher proposition and can be backed at 4/6.

Pep Guardiola will be watching the action from Anfield with keen interest before his side host Crystal Palace. As long as Manchester City can pick up three points his side stands to gain by closing the gap on one of, or possibly both Liverpool and United. City are just 1/7 to win so again it's a challenge to find some value.

In Scotland, Rangers are almost out of sight in the Premiership already. They travle to Fir Park where they've scored ten in their last three visits. The only danger to the Gers now looks like complacency but they don't look like take their foot off the gas.

Inter v Juventus wraps up a Super Sunday and it should be a cracker at the San Siro. Juventus have some ground to make up on the teams above them and a win in Milan would go a long way to steering them towards a tenth consecutive title a row.
