Benfica still have an outside chance of reaching the Champions League knockout stages but they will need to upset the odds at home to Real Madrid to keep their hopes alive.
It took the Portuguese giants until matchday five to get some points on the board, with Jose Mourinho failing to work his magic in Europe.
Wins over Ajax and Napoli have given the Eagles some hope but Mourinho now has to find a way to defeat old club Real Madrid.
Xabi Alonso patrolled the midfield in Mourinho's Madrid side but his stint in the Bernabeu dugout was short lived, axed after losing to bitter rivals Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup.
Alvaro Arbeloa, another former Mourinho charge, has now taken the reins and they head into this game off the back of three successive victories.
Real Madrid thrashed Monaco 6-1 in their last Champions League outing and if they can rack up another victory it will guarantee a place in the last 16.
So the stage is set for a cracker until the lights at the Estadio da Luz with both sides looking for three points.
How the bookies view it: Benfica against it
Real Madrid are odds-on favourites for this one and most firms price them at 4/6. Benfica are a best 18/5 at BetMGM while the draw pays 33/10 with the same firm.
Head to head: Long time no see
Despite being giants of European football, these teams have only faced off three times before. They haven't met since 1965, when Real won at the Bernabeu after losing the previous two clashes.
Players to watch: Mbappe fab at 40
Kylian Mbappe continues to post incredible numbers for Real Madrid and another goal tonight will take his tally to 40 for club and country this season. He's just 8/11 at BetMGM for anytime scorer but the odds increase to 3/1 at Bet365 if you back him to break the deadlock.
Vangelis Pavlidis had a comedy miss from the spot in Benfica's loss to Juventus but bounced back with a weekend double on domestic duty. The Greek is their biggest threat and he's 6/5 at Paddy Power to score or assist.

Probable line-ups
Mbappe is expected to shake off a minor injury to start, while Alvaro Carreras should also be fit. But Antonio Rudiger, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy will miss out again in defence.
Benfica also have a few key players out, with Alexander Bah, Nuno Felix, Richard Rios, Joao Veloso and Samuel Soares set to be sidelined again.
Benfica: Trubin, Dedic, Dahl, Otamendi, Araujo, Aursnes, Sudakov, Barreiro, Schjelderup, Prestianni, Pavlidis.
Real Madrid: Courtois, Valverde, Asencio, Huijsen, Bellingham, Camavinga, Tchouameni, Guler, Vinicius Jnr, Mbappe, Mastantuono.
Anything else catch the eye?
It's hard to see Benfica's defence living with Real Madrid's star-studded attack so I like the 5/4 on offer at William Hill for the Spanish giants to score in each half.
Mourinho should have his players fired up for this one and backing Benfica for most cards looks good value at evens with Bet365.
Real Madrid should have most of the pressure and the same firm offer the same price on the Spanish giants at -1 in the corner handicap.
