Following Thursday night's winner in France, SlipsTips is back with another player-based selection ahead of Greece’s clash with Scotland in World Cup qualifying on Saturday night.
Greece vs Scotland (Saturday, 19:45)
Scotland face a date with destiny on Saturday night as they bid to keep their automatic World Cup qualification hopes alive when they face Greece at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.
Realistically, Scotland will have to collect at least four points from their final two matches if they are to finish top of the pile in Group C.
In contrast, Greece have already had their fate sealed having amassed just three points from their opening four group games, meaning that they have nothing but pride at stake on Saturday night.
However, Ivan Jovanovic’s team are unlikely to roll over here, a view reflected by the bookmakers’ who make the hosts general 5/4 favourites.
As such, I’m going to bypass the match result market in Piraeus, and instead highlight a player-based selection that holds plenty of appeal.
Dipping into the player fouls market, I’m keen to back Lewis Ferguson to commit two or more fouls at 4/5 with either PaddyPower or Sky Bet.
The combative Scotland midfielder has been a serial offender during the current World Cup qualifying campaign, committing an average of 3.00 fouls per game.
In fact, Ferguson overstepped the mark five times during last month’s reverse fixture with Greece, while he also gave away multiple free-kicks during Scotland's away games at both Denmark and Belarus.
That habit for falling foul of the referee has coincided with Ferguson collecting two yellow cards across his three Group C appearances so far, meaning that he had to serve a suspension for Belarus’ visit to Hampden last month.
It’s been a similar story in Serie A this season, with Ferguson committing an average of 2.36 fouls per 90, making four misdemeanours against Napoli last time out.
On top of all that, the 26-year-old has committed two fouls or more in three of his four outings for Bologna in this season’s Europa League.
Therefore, in a game of this magnitude as far as Scotland are concerned, Ferguson looks well worthy of support to commit two fouls or more at the odds on offer.
