Liverpool vs Man City (Sunday, 16:30)

Liverpool and Manchester City round off this weekend’s Premier League action with a blockbuster showdown at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Fresh from a resounding 4-1 victory over Newcastle last weekend, Liverpool will be hoping that triumph can act as a springboard for further success as they prepare to host Man City.

Pep Guardiola’s side, meanwhile, slipped six points behind league leaders Arsenal after throwing away a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 away at Tottenham last Sunday.

The Citizens could find themselves nine points adrift by the time they take to the field on Sunday afternoon, meaning there is absolutely no room for error.

With neither side offering much appeal in the 1×2 market, I’m going to do what I often do and turn to a player-based angle that looks good value.

Florian Wirtz is priced at 17/20 with William Hill to attempt two or more shots in this heavyweight clash, and that looks well worthy of support.

After a difficult start following his mega-money move to Liverpool last summer, the German international appears to be finding his feet, with his form improving noticeably in recent weeks.

In fact, all six of Wirtz’s goals in a Liverpool shirt have come across his last 10 appearances, with the 22-year-old netting in each of his last two outings.

From a shots perspective, Wirtz has registered at least two efforts in six of his last eight top-flight appearances, notably firing off four attempts in two of Liverpool’s last three Premier League home matches.

It’s also worth noting that the German international managed four attempts during Liverpool’s recent 6–0 Champions League rout of Qarabag, which only adds further weight to this angle.

On top of that, Wirtz landed the 2+ shots line in this season’s reverse fixture against Man City.

With City looking increasingly shaky at the back in recent weeks, there should be plenty of scope for Wirtz to repeat the trick at Anfield on Sunday.

The case is further strengthened by the fact that Man City have faced 12 shots in each of their last two matches against Spurs and Newcastle over the past seven days.
