One of the most intriguing ties from Thursday night’s opening round of Nations League matches will see Norway and Denmark face off at the Ullevaal Stadion.
After qualifying for their first World Cup in 28 years with a flawless eight wins from eight, Norway carried that momentum into the tournament and enjoyed an impressive run to the quarter-finals.
Denmark, meanwhile, were forced to watch from home after failing to qualify through either the group stage or the play-offs, suffering an agonising defeat to the Czech Republic in the latter.
Given where these two Nordic nations are at right now, it is no surprise to see Norway priced as general 3/4 favourites with most bookmakers.
However, I would rather side with an alternative Norway-based angle at a slightly bigger price on Thursday night.
Erling Haaland will almost certainly lead the line for his country and looks too big to ignore in the anytime goalscorer market at 4/5 with Sky Bet.
Haaland’s numbers on the international stage make for remarkable reading, with the prolific striker firing in an astronomical 62 goals across his 55 appearances for Norway.
Seven of those strikes came at the World Cup earlier this summer, where he bagged three braces across five appearances, including one against Brazil.
He has carried that form into the new Premier League season, scoring five goals across Manchester City’s opening five games and finding the net in each of his last four top-flight outings.
The Norwegian goal machine should therefore be rubbing his hands at the prospect of facing a Denmark defence that looked shaky throughout their World Cup qualifying campaign, conceding twice at home to Belarus before shipping four goals away to Scotland.
The Red-Whites also conceded two goals in their World Cup qualifying play-off final against the Czech Republic and failed to keep a clean sheet in June’s friendly victory over Ukraine.
Having also scored when these nations last met a couple of years ago, Haaland represents good value to repeat the trick at 4/5 with Sky Bet.
