SlipsTips shares a Bet Builder double ahead of Everton’s clash with Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Everton vs Newcastle (Saturday, 17:30)
Targeting what would be a third Premier League win in succession, Everton will do battle with Newcastle at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday evening.
David Moyes's side will return to their new home this weekend fresh from a famous 1-0 win over Man United at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Newcastle, on the other hand, will have to lift themselves up off the canvas after going down 2-1 at Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
I’ve already covered this tea-time tussle in a separate match preview, but I'm now going to propose a Bet Builder Double.
James Garner To Be Fouled Once Or More
As mentioned in the above-linked preview, I’m keen to back Everton’s James Garner to be fouled once or more during this contest.
The Everton midfielder is enjoying a quietly impressive season, and he has proven to be particularly reliable when it comes to reeling in free-kicks from Everton’s foes. In fact, Garner has drawn an average of 0.84 fouls per game across his 12 top-flight appearances for the Toffees this term.
Upon closer inspection, it can be seen that the 24-year-old has been brought down once or more in seven of his previous nine Premier League outings, earning his side multiple set-pieces in three of those matches. What’s more, Garner has been fouled at least once in four of Everton’s last five Premier League matches on home soil.
Now up against a Newcastle side that will have a number of fiery competitors patrolling the midfield battleground, I’m more than happy to back Garner to be fouled a minimum of once during this showdown. The Blues midfielder is likely to cross paths with serial offenders Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton – both of whom are committing an average in the region of 2.00 fouls per game in this season’s Premier League.
Over 2 Cards
With both teams likely to be going hammer and tongs to win this one, I'm going to conclude the Bet Builder by including over two cards.
Everton's Premier League fixtures this season have featured an average in excess of four cards per game, with eight of their 12 matches generating three bookings or more, including five of their six assignments at their new Merseyside base.
As for Newcastle, their 12 top-flight fixtures this season have generated an average of 3.44 bookings per game, with this selection landing in each of the Magpies' last three league matches. It’s also worth noting that Newcastle were involved in a bad-tempered Champions League clash with Marseille on Tuesday night, with the total card count at full time sitting at eight.
On top of all that, referee Craig Pawson has flashed three cards or more in six of the nine matches that he has taken charge of across all competitions this season.
