Both seeking to build on their impressive matchday five victories, Atalanta and Chelsea will square off at the Stadio di Bergamo on Tuesday night.
Raffaele Palladino’s hosts already have one foot in the knockout round after banking maximum points from their last two matches, winning away at both Marseille and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Chelsea are also sitting pretty in the league-phase standings following a statement 3-0 victory over Barcelona at Stamford Bridge a fortnight ago.
However, neither of these sides have been pulling up trees in their respective domestic divisions in recent weeks, so I’m quite happy to bypass both from a 1X2 perspective.
Instead, I'm again going to plump for a player-based selection by proposing a play on Ederson to commit two or more fouls at an eye-catching 13/10 with PaddyPower.
The Atalanta midfielder’s warrior-like work rate often results in him getting on the wrong side of the referee.
In fact, Ederson has committed an average of 2.04 fouls per game across his four appearances in this season’s Champions League, picking up one yellow card in the process.
Moreover, the tough-tackling Brazilian has committed two or more fouls in three of Atalanta’s last four continental contests, overstepping the mark on three occasions on matchday four against Marseille.
While Ederson has committed an average of 1.39 fouls per 90 in Serie A this season, that figure has been on the rise in recent weeks, with the midfielder making multiple misdemeanours in three of his last five outings.
With Ederson expected to be stationed in the same areas of the pitch as Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo on Tuesday night, another two fouls or more from the Atalanta ace is well within the realms of possibility.
The aforementioned Chelsea duo have drawn respective averages of 2.83 and 0.90 fouls per game in this season’s Champions League to date.
So with all that in mind, I’m more than happy to back Ederson to commit at least two fouls on Tuesday night at a value 13/10 with PaddyPower.
