SlipsTips shares a cross-match Bet Builder double ahead of Saturday’s two matches from the Scottish Premiership.
Over 1 Livingston Card – (Saturday, 15:00)
For the first half of what will be a Bet Builder double, I’m going to follow a familiar theme by backing Livingston to receive two or more cards when they face Falkirk on Saturday afternoon. The Bairns will be targeting a third home win on the bounce, while Livingston will be looking to build on last week’s 2-2 draw with Hibernian.
There is no love lost between these two teams after they pushed each other to their limits in the Scottish Championship automatic promotion race last season, with Falkirk clinching the title on the final day of the regular campaign. As such, I think referee Grant Irvine could be kept busy on Saturday afternoon, particularly from the away side.
No team has received more yellow cards than Livingston (31) in this season’s Scottish Premiership, an amount that equates to an average of 2.82 cards per game.
A deeper dig shows that the Lions have landed two bookings or more in nine of their opening 11 league games of the season, including each of their last three. What’s more, when David Martindale’s men came up against Falkirk back on matchday two they clocked up four yellow cards to the Bairns’ two.
On top of all that, five of the six teams to visit the Falkirk Stadium in this season’s Scottish Premiership have collected two or more cards.
Over 1 St Mirren Card – (Saturday, 17:45)
Fresh off the back of securing a place in the Scottish League Cup final, St Mirren will play host to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday evening. The Saints sealed their place in next month’s showpiece by brilliantly dismantling Motherwell 4-1 at Hampden last Saturday, while the Hibees were in league action earlier that afternoon, conceding a last-gasp equaliser in a 2-2 draw away at Livingston.
With a keenly-contested affair expected under the Paisley lights on Saturday evening, I'm also going to take Stephen Robinson’s team to receive two or more cards. St Mirren have been shown an average of 2.20 yellow cards per 90 in the Scottish Premiership this season, a tally that shoots up to 3.00 when the Buddies are going about their business at their Renfrewshire base. In fact, St Mirren have collected 15 of their 27 yellow cards at home this season, picking up at least two cautions in each of their five top-flight fixtures at home this term.
It’s also worth noting that Robinson’s side have received a league-high two red cards this season, further highlighting their ill-discipline.
As for Hibs, they have drawn a minimum of two cards from nine of their 11 Scottish Premiership opponents this season, a sample that includes Hearts, Celtic and Rangers.
