Switzerland will look to confirm their spot at next year’s World Cup by overcoming Sweden at the Stade de Geneve on Saturday night.
Murat Yakin’s hosts are in pole position to take top honours in Group B where they currently sit three points in front of Kosovo heading into the final two rounds of action.
That being said, Switzerland did drop points for the first time when being held to a 0-0 draw away at Slovenia last time out.
However, Switzerland’s superior goal difference means that a win on Saturday night would almost certainly guarantee automatic qualification to next summer’s showpiece.
In contrast, Sweden’s bid to reach a first World Cup since 2018 was all-but extinguished when slumping to a shock 1-0 loss at home to Kosovo last month.
That latest setback proved to be the final nail in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s coffin, who has since been replaced by Graham Potter.
How the bookies view it: Swiss bliss
Switzerland – who have won each of their previous two home games in Group B – are odds-on 8/15 favourites with BOYLE Sports.
Sweden are as big as 4/1 with BOYLE Sports to claim all three points on Saturday night, while a share of the Stade de Geneve spoils has been priced up at 3/1 with the same firm.
Head to head: Swiss seeking more of the same
Switzerland ran out 2-0 winners when the two teams squared off in Stockholm last month. The same scoreline on Saturday night can be backed at 7/1 on BOYLE Sports.
Alternatively, a home win alongside under 4.5 goals looks an attractive option at 10/11 with BOYLE Sports.
Players to watch: Go with Granit
Granit Xhaka has attempted two or more shots in each of his last three appearances for Switzerland, making the same selection on Saturday night an appealing angle of attack at 11/10 with Bet365.
Alexander Isak is expected to spearhead Sweden’s attack on Saturday night. The Swedish sharpshooter has been chalked up at 2/1 for an anytime strike on BOYLE Sports.
Predicted line-ups
Switzerland will be unable to call upon the services of Remo Freuler after the experienced midfielder suffered a broken collarbone during Bologna’s recent win over Parma.
Sweden will have to navigate their final two assignments in Group B without influential striker Viktor Gyokeres, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Switzerland: Kobel; Rodriguez, Akanji, Elvedi, Widmer; Rieder, Xhaka, Zakaria; Vargas, Embolo, Ndoye
Sweden: Olsen; Gudmundsson, Lindelof, Lagerbielke, Hien; Karlstrom, Bergvall, Ayari, Forsberg, Elanga; Isak
Anything else catch the eye?
Given that Sweden are in must-win territory on Saturday night, the visitors look well worthy of support to earn four or more corners at even-money (1/1) on Bet365.
The Blue and Yellow have hit at least four corners in each of their four Group B outings to date.
It’s also worth noting that Switzerland conceded four flag kicks during their home game with Kosovo back on matchday one.
