Scotland vs Curacao

, KO: 13:00 , Hampden
Curacao

Scotland will be looking to sharpen up ahead of this summer’s World Cup when they take on Curacao in a friendly fixture at Hampden on Saturday afternoon.

After a 28-year absence, the Scots will finally return to football’s biggest stage in North America this summer.

Steve Clarke's side booked their place in dramatic fashion with a 4-2 win over Denmark last November, and have since stepped up their preparations with a couple of friendlies.

However, those ended in narrow 1-0 defeats to Japan and Ivory Coast, leaving Scotland keen to get a positive result under their belt and to build some momentum ahead of their Group C opener against Haiti in just over a fortnight.

Curacao, meanwhile, will also be making history at the summer showpiece after qualifying for the first time.

The Blue Stars have been drawn in Group E, where they will begin their campaign with a daunting opener against Germany.

How the bookies view it: Scots on easy street

Scotland head into the first of their two pre-World Cup warm-up matches as massive 1/6 favourites with bet365.

Curacao are as big as 14/1 to pull off a Hampden surprise with the same bookmaker, while the draw is also considered unlikely at 5/1.

Head to head: History book blank

Curacao only joined FIFA back in 2011, so it is no surprise this will be their first-ever meeting with Scotland. The last time Scotland faced Caribbean opposition was in 2015, when they beat Jamaica 2-0 in a friendly at Hampden.

Players to watch: McTominay to make his mark?

Scott McTominay has long cut a talismanic figure for Scotland and looks a solid option for an anytime strike on Saturday at 6/5 with bet365.

Former Rangers man Juninho Bacuna has established himself as a key player for Curacao and looks well placed to register at least one shot at a value 4/5 with bet365.

Predicted line-ups

Steve Clarke is expected to use this friendly as an opportunity to take a closer look at a number of players, with competition for places still very much open. It will be particularly interesting to see who gets the nod in goal, as well as who leads the line.

Curacao boss Dick Advocaat built a settled side during qualifying and is likely to stick with that core group from the start on Saturday, before turning to his squad options from the bench later in the game.

Scotland: Gunn; Hickey, Hanley, McKenna, Tierney; Gilmour, McLean, Christie; Gannon-Doak, McGinn; Dykes

Curacao: Room; Sambo, Van Eijma, Obispo, Floranus; L. Bacuna, Roemeratoe, J. Bacuna; Hansen, Locadia, Chong

Anything else catch the eye?

Scotland are not the type of side to routinely blow teams away, so it is difficult to see them running up a cricket score here.

With that in mind, a home win paired with under 3.5 goals looks a sensible play at evens with Betfred.

Fresh from sealing his move from Hearts to Rangers, Lawrence Shankland could be introduced from the bench on Saturday, which makes him an appealing option to score the final goal of the game at 10/3 with bet365 – one of the best World Cup betting apps.
