NEWCASTLE UNITED and Manchester United square off in a hotly-anticipated Premier League showdown at St James’ Park on Saturday night.
The two teams are separated by just one place in the top-flight table, with the Magpies sitting in seventh spot, while the Red Devils are one position above in sixth place.
After losing 2-0 Bournemouth before the international break, Newcastle returned to winning ways in style with a 4-1 demolition of Chelsea last Saturday.
However, Eddie Howe’s side suffered late heartbreak in the Champions League on Tuesday night, as PSG pinched a point courtesy of a controversial injury-time penalty.
Manchester United were also involved in European game filled with drama in midweek, as they played out a goal-heavy 3-3 draw with Galatasaray.
Erik ten Hag’s team have embarked on a mini-revival of sorts in the Premier League of late, having won their last three matches, though Saturday night’s trip to St James’ Park promises to be a much sterner test of their mettle.
Outright Betting
Newcastle dumped the Red Devils out of the Carabao Cup at the start of November and another Toon Army triumph here is trading at 10/11 with Bet 365.
Despite winning five of their last six Premier League matches, Manchester United are big underdogs at 3/1 (Ladbrokes) while the draw is an unfancied 14/5 (UniBet).
Betting Angles
Newcastle are just a little too skinny for my liking on Saturday so I’ll instead head to the Bet Builder and back both Bruno Guimarães and Diogo Dalot to commit a foul at 4/5 (Bet 365.
In front of a raucous St James’ Park, the midfield battle between these two sides is likely to be intense, and the aforementioned Guimarães is sure to be in the thick of the action.
The all-action Brazilian has already clocked up eight yellow cards across his 19 appearances in all competitions this season, not to mention he is averaging 1.6 fouls per-game in the top-flight this term.
If selected ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, I’ll also go with Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot to tackle his way into trouble at least once during this televised tussle.
The Red Devils right-back is a fierce competitor and is committing a shade under one misdemeanour per-game in the Premier League this season, and he is backed to continue in that vein given that his likely direct opponent Anthony Gordon is drawing 2.2 fouls per 90 from top-flight defences this term.
With all things considered, and team news permitting, the aforementioned combination should give us a good run for our money at 4/5 with Bet 365.
Another player-based selection that looks worthy of interest is Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier to collect a card at 9/2 with William Hill.
The Magpies right-back has been cautioned in four of his 13 Premier League appearances this season and he could well add to that tally here given that he is likely to be up against in-form Man United star Alejandro Garnacho.
