Liverpool vs Chelsea

, KO: 16:30 Oct 20, 2024, Anfield
Chelsea

The standout fixture from the latest round of Premier League action sees Liverpool square off with Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool signed off for the international break surveying the standings from the summit thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Crystal Palace.

New Reds boss Arne Slot has steered his side to six wins from seven in the Premier League this season, a run of form which suggests that his side could emerge as a real contender for the title.

The Mersysiders will look to solidify that notion by passing what will be their toughest test of the season to date when they host Chelsea this weekend.

Enzo Maresca’s men have made a bright start to the season and find themselves just three places and four points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Having said that, the Blues showed that they remain a work in progress after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest a fortnight ago, in a game that brought up one of my player-based bets at Stamford Bridge.

How the bookies view it: Light work for Liverpool

The bookmakers are of the view that Liverpool will emerge victorious from this game with room to spare, with a home win a lowly 13/20 on Betano.

A second successive stalemate involving Chelsea has been chalked up at 16/5 (Betano) while the Blues are as big as 10/3 (Betano) to bank all three points.

Head to head: Reds’ recent record robust

Liverpool have avoided defeat in each of their last nine meetings with Chelsea across all competitions. Liverpool produced one of their best performances last season when brushing aside the Blues 4-1 at Anfield back in January.

Players to watch: Cole knows the way to goal

Only Erling Haaland (10) has scored more goals than Cole Palmer (6) in the Premier League this season. The Chelsea talisman is 3/4 with UniBet to register a minimum of one shot on target at Anfield on Sunday.

Mohamed Salah, who already has six goals in 10 appearances for Liverpool this season, is  21/20 (Bet 365) to strike against his former club on Sunday.

Predicted line-ups

Liverpool were hit with a severe injury setback when goalkeeper Alisson Becker suffered a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace a fortnight ago. Thus, Caoimhin Kelleher looks set to be between the sticks on Sunday.

Chelsea will be without suspended duo Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana after both players picked up their respective fifth yellow cards of the season in the aforementioned 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool: Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Jota

Chelsea: Sanchez; Gusto, Adarabioyo, Colwill, Chilwell; Caicedo, Fernandez; Madueke, Palmer, Sancho; Jackson

Anything else catch the eye?

Look to Trent Alexander-Arnold to commit a minimum of one foul on Sunday at 4/5 with Bet 365.

Admittedly, the Liverpool ace is not renowned for being on the referee’s radar, however he has committed a foul in three of his last four Premier League appearances.

He will likely be up against Chelsea livewire Jadon Sancho on Sunday, who was fouled during the Blues’ recent 4-2 win over Brighton.

This match between Liverpool and Chelsea will be played on Oct 20, 2024 and kick off at 16:30. Check below for our tipsters best Liverpool vs Chelsea prediction. You may also visit our dedicated betting previews section for the most up to date previews.
