Liverpool vs Aston Villa

, KO: 14:00 Sep 3, 2023, Anfield
Aston Villa

Liverpool will put their unbeaten record on the line as they welcome Aston Villa to Anfield for a Premier League fixture on Sunday. Villa certainly have the quality to make things difficult but the Reds often do best work at home and should have the upper hand here.

Liverpool will be heading into Sunday’s clash on a high after claiming a thrilling 2-1 victory at Newcastle United last time out in the Premier League. Despite playing much of the encounter with 10 men, they overcame an early setback to claim the win thanks to two late goals from Darwin Nunez.

That result means Liverpool are still unbeaten at the start of the season having claimed two wins and a draw from their opening three matches. Jurgen Kopp’s men are returning to Anfield where they are unbeaten in their last 13 Premier League matches, stretching back to last season.

While Liverpool have looked good this season, their defence remains suspect as they are yet to keep a single clean sheet so far. Their defensive problems will be made worse with captain Virgil Van Dijk serving a suspension while Ibrahima Konate remains sidelined with injury.

Aston Villa have plenty of reason to be pleased with their start to the campaign having looked impressive so far. They have successfully bounced back from that early defeat to Newcastle, winning every match across all competitions since.

The Villans head claimed a 3-1 victory at Burnley in their previous Premier League fixture with Matty Cash netting a brace while Moussa Diaby was also on target. Cash was once again among the goals as they followed up that win with a 3-0 triumph over Hibernian to progress into the group stage of the Europa League.

While Aston Villa will be keen to maintain their fine start tithe season, the opening day defeat to Newcastle United highlights a vulnerability on their travels. Unai Emery’s men have claimed just one win in their last five away matches in the Premier League, suffering three defeats in that run.
