Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the MLS, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ DC United vs Columbus Crew

🇺🇸 MLS

⏰ Thursday 10 September, 00:30

Goals could be in the offing in the capital in the early hours of Thursday morning as DC United entertain the Columbus Crew in an all-Eastern Conference clash.

Rene Weiler’s hosts have scored 28 goals across their opening 22 MLS clashes this campaign, with 15 (54%) of them coming in front of their supporters.

The Eagles have blanked in just two of their previous 14 MLS encounters – scoring two or more goals in half of them – and will look to breach a Crew backline that has yet to record a clean sheet on their MLS travels this season, shipping 2+ goals in 9/11 (82%) of them.

Laurent Courtois’ visitors have scored 34 goals across their opening 23 MLS encounters this season, with 17 (50%) of them coming on their travels.

The Crew have failed to score in just one of their last 19 MLS contests – scoring two or more goals in 10 (53%) of them – and they will be confident of getting on the scoresheet against a DC defence that has recorded a solitary shutout across their last 11 MLS clashes.

Bet of the Day

DC’s opening 11 MLS clashes in front of their supporters have averaged a whopping 3.36 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score paying out in six of the last eight and seven of the past 10 – as well as in nine of their previous 11 across all venues – whilst eight of their last 10 have gone over 2.5 Goals.

The Crew’s opening 23 fixtures in the MLS this term have averaged 3.17 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score landing in 17 (74%) of them – including in 10/11 (91%) of their road trips – whilst each of their last eight across all venues and 10/11 (91%) of their away matches have gone Over 2.5 Goals.

What’s more, Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals has paid out in each of the last three meetings between these two clubs – including in the reverse fixture in July – and I’m backing that trend to continue in Washington in the early hours of Thursday morning.

  • Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals
