Leeds United vs Chelsea

, KO: 20:15 , Elland Road
Chelsea

Chelsea make the trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United on Wednesday evening looking to build on their performance against leaders Arsenal.

During the first half of Sunday's blockbuster clash at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea were reduced to 10 men, but Enzo Maresca's side were still able to earn a 1-1 draw against the Gunners.

Meanwhile, Leeds delivered their own spirited performance against Manchester City a day earlier, coming from two goals down at the Etihad Stadium before succumbing to a 3-2 defeat in added-on time.

At a time when Chelsea begin the latest matchday in third position in the Premier League table, Leeds are down in 18th spot after losing their last four top-flight fixtures.

How the bookies see it: The value is with Leeds

Despite the difference in league positions, it should not be ignored that Chelsea will have had over 24 hours less recovery time and played against Arsenal with 10 men for over 50 minutes.

Therefore, betting odds of 3/4 for a Blues win look far too short, and the draw will appeal to punters at 31/10.

Leeds also possess a solid home record for a newly-promoted team, collecting eight points from six games, and there is value in the 10/3 offered by Bet365 for a Lilywhites triumph.

Head to head: Reason for Leeds optimism

In 109 matches between these two sides, they are separated by the smallest of margins when it comes to wins with Leeds prevailing on 40 occasions in comparison to 39 victories for Chelsea.

However, in games played since 2003, Leeds have won just the once, albeit that being a 3-0 success at Elland Road in August 2022.

That was Chelsea's last visit to the ground, with 1-0 and 3-2 victories being recorded at Stamford Bridge since that occasion.

There has only been one goalless draw in the most recent 14 encounters being these two teams.

Players to watch: Estevao to flourish in Yorkshire?

Although Estevao Willian was substituted at half time against Arsenal, the extra rest could lead to the Brazilian being used in this game.

The 18-year-old has scored in four of his last eight appearances for Chelsea, despite four of those outings being 45 minutes or less.

Of Leeds' new signings in the summer, Lukas Nmecha has been the standout performer with four goals from 427 minutes of football.

Most notably, however, the German has netted in his last three Premier League appearances.

Probable lineups:

Leeds are likely to make a number of changes, including Gabriel Gudmundsson returning at left-back and Dominic Calvert-Lewin starting in the final third.

However, the likes of Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach will miss out through injury. Leeds can still call upon Ethan Ampadu for the engine room after he avoided picking up a fifth yellow card of the season against Man City.

Moises Caicedo begins a three-match ban for Chelsea and Reece James may also start on the substitutes' bench.

That could see Andrey Santos and Enzo Fernandez start in midfield, while Liam Delap may feature down the centre of the attack.

Cole Palmer could remain on the substitutes' bench, but Benoit Badiashile is in line to replace Wesley Fofana in defence.

Leeds United: Perri; Bogle, Rodon, Struijk, Gudmundsson; Tanaka, Ampadu, Gruev; James, Calvert-Lewin, Nmecha

Chelsea: Sanchez; Gusto, Chalobah, Badiashile, Cucurella; Santos, Fernandez; Estevao, Pedro, Garnacho; Delap

Anything catch the eye?

Only seven teams have conceded fewer goals in home fixtures this season than Leeds, who have shipped seven strikes in six games.

However, Chelsea possess the best attacking record in away games, netting 14 times in the same amount of contests.

Furthermore, Chelsea have not failed to score in any of their nine away fixtures in all competitions.

At the same time as Leeds have lost their last four matches, Chelsea have only succumbed once in 12 games, that coming to a last-gasp Sunderland winner in a 2-1 defeat.
