EVERTON will be looking to drag themselves out of the Premier League relegation zone when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park on Saturday lunchtime.
The Toffees appeared to have been galvanised by the 10-point deduction handed to the club earlier this season, but their form has taken a major nosedive over the last few months.
Whilst Sean Dyche’s side battled to a 0-0 draw at Fulham on Tuesday night, the Blues have now dropped into the bottom three of the Premier League.
As such, Dyche and Co will be desperate to move out of the basement zone by claiming top honours against Tottenham this weekend.
Ange Postecoglou’s side moved into the top-four of the Premier League with a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Brentford on Wednesday night.
Spurs ran out 2-1 winners when hosting Everton just before Christmas and they will now look to repeat the trick in the Merseyside return match.
Outright Betting
Everton are without a win in their last five Premier League matches and the bookmakers’ odds suggest that run will continue, with a Toffees win trading at 19/10 (Bet 365) while a point apiece at Goodison Park pays 13/5 (UniBet).
Tottenham have triumphed in six of their last nine top-flight fixtures and they are 11/8 favourites at Betfred.
Betting Angles
Tottenham will attract plenty of attention here given the contrasting form of the pair but I’m going to opt for another Bet Builder by backing Tottenham Double Chance, Idrissa Gueye to commit a foul and Destiny Udogie to commit a foul at even-money (1/1) on Bet 365.
As already alluded to, Spurs come into this clash in much better shape than their opponents so I’m more than happy to back the visitors to avoid defeat in the Double Chance market.
Ange Postecoglou’s side boast the incredible record of being the only side in the Premier League to score in all of their matches this season so far and they can extend that sequence against an Everton side now residing in the relegation zone.
Whilst Sean Dyche’s side are certain to play with the shackles on this weekend, shutting out a Spurs side that are a potent attacking force will be a tall order.
With Idrissa Gueye returning from the Africa Cup of Nations and available for selection on Saturday, I’ll also go with the Everton midfielder to commit a foul.
The Senegalese international is averaging 1.5 fouls per 90 in the top-flight this term, clocking up at least one foul in six of his last seven league appearances.
Switching gears to Spurs’ backline, I’m also going to side with Destiny Udogie to get on the wrong side of the referee at least once on Saturday.
The Italian left-back has averaged 1.6 fouls per-game when on Premier League duty this season, giving away at least one free-kick in 15 of his 20 appearances to date.
With all things considered, I’ll also back Tottenham to deliver Over 1.5 team goals at even-money (1/1) with William Hill.
This bet would have paid out in a league-high 17 of Spurs’ 22 league games this season so siding with the same selection on Saturday at evens is a price that definitely represents value.
