But the Iranians collapsed after Jude Bellingham's opener and England's vibrant attack scored six times to lay down a marker for the rest of the tournament.
Switching to a back four made the English much more dangerous going forward as it freed up Bellingham to roam. Southgate will surely stick for the same system for the rest of the tournament and his players should have too much firepower for the States.
