Derby vs Leeds

, KO: 12:00 , Pride Park
Leeds

Derby County and Leeds United will lock horns at Pride Park in an FA Cup third-round tie on Sunday afternoon.

The Rams will be hoping that domestic cup duty provides some respite after failing to win four of their last five English Championship matches, losing each of their last two.

Despite their recent struggles, John Eustace’s side are sitting in 13th position and are only six points off a play-off place.

As for Leeds, they saw their seven-game unbeaten run in the Premier League come to an end in a thrilling 4-3 loss at Newcastle on Wednesday night, in a game that brought up two of my three selections.

The result leaves Leeds sitting 16th in the top flight, eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Daniel Farke’s side will now look to take the first step towards claiming what would be a first-ever FA Cup triumph by dispatching of Derby this weekend.

How the bookies view it: Leeds to march on

With the two sides separated by a division, it’s no surprise that Leeds are priced up as odds-on 8/13 favourites on bet365.

Derby are as big as 9/2 with bet365 to topple Leeds inside 90 minutes, while a draw in normal time is also considered unlikely at 11/4 with the same bookmaker.

Head-to-head: History against the hosts

Leeds have a slight edge in the overall head-to-head record (17-15 and 11 draws), not to mention they won both meetings in the English Championship last season, keeping a clean sheet in each of those two victories. Another Leeds win to nil this weekend is trading at 15/8 with William Hill.

Players to watch: Brenden to bag?

After bagging a brace against Newcastle in midweek, Brenden Aaronson looks terrific value for a goal or an assist during this cup tie at 6/4 on bet365.

Having been booked five times across his last nine English Championship appearances, Callum Elder catches the eye to pick up another card here at 7/2 with William Hill.

Predicted line-ups

Derby will be without injured duo Carlton Morris and Max Johnston, who are long-term absentees, while Owen Beck has returned to his parent club, Liverpool.

Leeds boss Farke has confirmed that Karl Darlow will start in goal this weekend. On the injury front, Jayden Bogle is doubtful, while Daniel James remains sidelined.

Derby: Zetterstrom; Langas, Sanderson, Clarke; Ward, Thompson, Adams, Elder, Clark; Brewster, Agyemang

Leeds: Darlow; Bijol, Bornauw, Struijk; Justin, Longstaff, Aaronson, Ampadu, Gudmundsson; Nmecha, Okafor

Anything else catch the eye?

Backing both teams to score looks well worth supporting at 19/20 with Bet365.

There have been goals at both ends in 10 of Leeds’ last 11 Premier League matches, including five of their last six away games.

The BTTS case further strengthened by the fact that both teams have scored in six of Derby’s last seven home games.
