Atalanta are set to maintain their push for a UEFA Champions League place when they face Cagliari in Serie A. The hosts have been one of the worst clubs in Serie A this season and should be no match for Atalanta on Saturday.
There appears to be no respite for Cagliari, who are currently rooted to the foot of the Serie A table. It may still be early days but they are already showing relegation form with just one win from 11 matches this season.
Cagliari head into Saturday’s clash off the back of three straight Serie A defeats and were beaten 2-0 at Bologna last time out. Walter Mazzarri’s men also struggle to get going at home and have claimed just one win in their last five matches at Unipol Domus, suffering three defeats in that run.
Cagliari are also among the worst defences in Serie A and have conceded two or more goals in their last three matches.
After stumbling slightly at the start of the season, Atalanta appear to be slowly getting their campaign back on track. They are unbeaten in their last four Serie A matches and are level on 19 points with fourth placed Roma.
Despite their recent resurgence, Atalanta still look vulnerable at the back and have been held to 2-2 draws by Lazio and Manchester United in their last two matches. The Champions League draw with United will be particularly disappointing for manager Gian Piero Gasperini as they twice let leads slip.
