BRIGHTON and NewcastleUnited both suffered chastising home defeats last week and will both be desperate to put matters right when they meet in a Saturday night showdown.
Newcastle were one of the most talked-about teams last season after an excellent campaign under Eddie Howe and they opened their campaign with a sensational 5-1 home annihilation of Aston Villa.
But they've been brought down to earth with defeat at champions Manchester City, which certainly could be excused. And far worse was to follow when they somehow chucked away a one-goal lead at home to ten-men Liverpool to lose 2-1, despite Virgil van Dijk being sent off after just 28 minutes. There were no excuses for that.
The manner of that defeat must have been a serious jolt to their confidence and should never have happened.
But Brighton were also stunned by a 3-1 home defeat to improving West Ham United where they were three goals down after just over an hour.
They were well and truly outdone by the Hammers' counter-attacking style and it ended a fine start to the season after a pair of 4-1 wins in a row against Luton Town and Wolves.
So both teams will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they meet on the south coast.
