ARSENAL will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they entertain Manchester United at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners started their latest pursuit for Premier League glory with a pair of solid if unspectacular wins over both Nottingham and Forest and Fulham respectively.
However, Mikel Arteta’s men suffered their first setback of the season when drawing 2-2 at home to Fulham last weekend, on an afternoon where both of my bets landed in North London.
Back at their capital headquarters this weekend, Arteta will be demanding a response from his side when Manchester United come to town.
The Red Devils roared back from two goals down to edge out Nottingham Forest in a 3-2 thriller at Old Trafford last weekend.
That means Erik ten Hag’s team have taken six points from a possible nine thus far and another win here would see them move above their hosts in the Premier League table.
Outright Betting
Despite coming up short against Fulham at home last weekend, Arsenal enter their latest Emirates encounter as odds-on 4/5 (Bet 365) favourites.
Manchester United have already fallen to defeat in North London this season and the bookies’ odds suggest it will be more of the same on Sunday, with the visitors 10/3 (William Hill) outsiders while a share of the spoils can be backed at 3/1 (UniBet).
Betting Angles
Goals have been on the agenda more often than not when either of these teams are involved during the early weeks of the season and there is plenty of scope for a repeat here with Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals appealing at 5/6 (Bet 365).
Whilst Mikel Areta has an array of attacking talent at his disposal, keeping clean sheets remains an issue, with the Gunners failing to keep both Nottingham and Forest and Fulham at bay in their first two home fixtures of the season.
In fact, Arsenal have failed to shutout their opponents a whopping 17 of the last 21 top-flight tussles in front of their own supporters, which doesn’t augur well ahead of a visit from a Manchester United side that have an attacking armoury filled with goal-threatening talent.
However, the Red Devils’ own defensive deficiencies have been apparent during the early weeks of the season, with Erik ten Hag’s team leaking two goals in each of their last two games.
It’s also worth noting that United's injury list has expanded to include defensive mainstays Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane, so it will be a makeshift rearguard setup against one the division’s deadliest attacks.
With all that in mind, coupled with the fact that this bet has paid out in 15 of Arsenal’s last 21 Premier League home games, siding with the same combination in the capital on Sunday stands out at 5/6 (Bet 365).
Given that there's little love lost between these two familiar foes, I'll also dip into the player card market and back Aaron Wan-Bissaka to go into the book at 3/1 (UniBet).
The United right-back has already been cautioned twice this term and he could tackle his way into trouble again here given that he likely going to be tasked with taming Arsenal livewire Gabriel Martinelli.
