At Mill Farm, AFC Fylde begin life back in the division off the back of one of the most dominant National League North campaigns in years, and the numbers behind that promotion are just as striking as the trophy. Wealdstone travel south carrying one of the worst away records anywhere in last season's National League.
Bridge Avenue hosts a genuine piece of history as Hornchurch play their first ever National League fixture, against opponents who won their own play off final on the same day, only to watch almost everything that made it special leave within weeks.
At a sold out Brunton Park, Carlisle open as favourites against a Worthing side that dominated National League South as thoroughly as anyone in the country, only to lose their most important player before kickoff at this level.
Three fixtures, three stories worth more than a glance. Here's what the numbers say.
AFC Fylde vs Wealdstone
AFC Fylde host Wealdstone at Mill Farm on Saturday, kicking off at 3pm, as the Coasters begin life back in the National League following a dominant promotion campaign under Craig Mahon.
Fylde won National League North with 100 points, 112 goals and 32 wins from 46 matches. They even won eight of the 16 games in which they conceded first. Mahon remains in charge, while new Director of Football James Keyworth adds a data-led approach to recruitment. Danny Ormerod is the standout after scoring 27 goals and winning National League North Player of the Year at only 20, with Cedric Main arriving from Darlington to add another attacking option.
The underlying numbers backed up Fylde's dominance. Their +0.54 xG difference per game was the best in the division, while they scored 0.68 goals per game above their xG. Home form was particularly strong, with 18 wins, two draws and three defeats from 23 matches at Mill Farm, scoring 63 goals and failing to score in none.
Wealdstone arrive with a less settled squad after losing Nathan Tshikuna, Dom Hutchinson, Junior Tiensia and Sean Adarkwa on free transfers. Gary Waddock begins his first full season in charge after last year's run to the FA Trophy final.
Their away numbers are the concern. Wealdstone recorded a -0.53 xG difference per game on the road last season, while their away big chances total ranked 22nd of 24 National League clubs.
Fylde are stepping up a division, but their home numbers were exceptional. Wealdstone arrive with one of the weakest away processes in the National League and a squad weakened over the summer.

AFC Hornchurch vs Kidderminster Harriers
Hornchurch welcome Kidderminster Harriers at Bridge Avenue on Saturday in the first National League fixture in the club's history.
Daryl McMahon has taken Hornchurch from the Isthmian Premier title through an FA Trophy win at Wembley and now into the fifth tier. The club has moved to full-time football and added considerable experience, with Joe Kizzi, Tom Dallison, Jack Baldwin and Ryan Inniss all arriving.
National League South Player of the Season Angelo Balanta remains, while captain Tom Wraight has signed a new contract after passing 200 appearances. Goalkeeper is the obvious concern, with 20-year-old Arthur Nasta currently the only recognised option.
The underlying numbers were solid rather than dominant. Hornchurch recorded a +0.10 xG difference per game last season, ranking sixth in National League South. Their home record was stronger, with 14 wins from 25 matches, 44 goals scored and 27 conceded, averaging 1.96 points per game.
Kidderminster arrive after major changes following promotion. Manager Adam Murray left for Barrow shortly after winning the play-off final, while both goalscorers from that game, Kieren Donnelly and Charlie Cooper, have departed. Goalkeeper Christian Dibble has also left, leaving new manager Paul Wotton rebuilding a squad stripped of several important promotion-winning players.
Hornchurch's home record, move to full-time football and summer recruitment make them the stronger side to back, but last season's underlying numbers do not justify treating them as dominant favourites at this level. Removing the draw offers some protection in an opening-day fixture between two promoted sides.

Carlisle United vs Worthing
Carlisle United host Worthing at a sold-out Brunton Park on Saturday with the hosts starting the new National League season as market favourites.
Carlisle finished third last season with 95 points before losing their play-off semi-final at home to Boreham Wood. Mark Hughes has since departed, with Rob Elliott arriving after keeping Gateshead up. Regan Linney remains the main attacking threat after 19 goals and 10 assists last season, while Miguel Azeez, Harvey Bunker, Kenton Richardson, Brad Nicholson and Toby Mullarkey have strengthened the squad.
The home numbers explain why Carlisle are strongly fancied. They averaged 15.6 shots and 6.4 shots on target per game at Brunton Park, with 9.45 attempts inside the box. Their 1.69 xG compared with 0.99 xGA produced a strong underlying advantage, while they created 23 big chances and conceded only 10, the best defensive big chance record in the division.
Worthing arrive after winning National League South and will play at this level for the first time. Adam Hinshelwood has returned for a third spell, although losing 23-goal top scorer Brad Dolaghan to Harrogate is significant.
Worthing's underlying process was strong, recording the second-best xG difference in National League South, but this represents an immediate step up against one of last season's strongest fifth-tier sides.
Carlisle's home shot volume and chance creation make them difficult to oppose, while adding over 1.5 goals only rules out a 1-0 home win from the successful Carlisle outcomes.
