Arsenal have the chance to reclaim fourth place in the Premier League tonight, following their 3-0 defeat in Thursday’s North London Derby and Spurs win yesterday, which saw them leapfrog the Gunners in to the European spot.
But they face a tricky trip to Newcastle, who’s recent good form has only been halted by a couple of defeats to the title contenders Liverpool and Man City.
Prior to that the Magpies had won four in a row, however they’ve consistently fallen short against the top teams in the division, winning just one point from a possible 33 against the current top six sides.
The Magpies have a terrible record against the Gunners, failing to win in eight meetings between the sides (D1 L7) and even failing to score in the last seven.
A top half finish might be beyond Eddie Howe’s side now but the Toon Army will be encouraged by what they’ve seen since the turn of the year however there’s arguably more at stake for Mikel Arteta’s side tonight.
They were worryingly undone at the back by Spurs in midweek but need to bounce back with a win tonight, however they're a bit on the short side at just 5/6 (SBK).
That goal-less run for Newcastle in this fixture cannot go on forever and they're 4/9 (Bet365) to find the net tonight, which could form part of a BetBuilder. Second placed Lillestrom have started the season really well (played 6 W4 D2 L0) and that’s even more impressive when you see the teams they’ve played. They came away from Bodo with an impressive 1-1 draw and have beaten Molde away 1-2 – hitting 6 corners.
At home they boast a perfect record of 3 wins from 3. 7 goals scored and 0 conceded. Impressive. Sarpsborg, however, are no mugs; they’ve had a good start and should pose a few problems but double chance and 5+ Lillestrom corners at a shade under evens is a price too good to turn down I think.
When you look deeper at Sarpsborg’s good start, they’ve played 3 of the bottom 4 teams and mid table Tromso. In fact, the only decent side they came up against (Viking) they lost at home, conceding 6 corners along way.
Lillestrom are hitting decent corner numbers. In their 3 home games thus far they’ve hit 5,9 and 6. The games where they hit 5 and 6 corners were easy wins which reflects on the corner numbers. I can’t see Lillestrom hammering Sarpsborg here so hopefully that’ll keep things fairly competitive, which should hopefully bring about corners.
As well as this, Sarpsborg do concede plenty of corners on the road. They shipped 12 at Tromso and 8 to bottom of the table Kristiansund.
