Welcome back to MFT’s 10-1,000 betting challenge, where we aim for a 100x return on the original investment via a small stake betting strategy, prioritising low risk and low odds en route to a long-term target.

While this column is dedicated to high-probability tips, there is no guarantee of profit. If playing along, you should consider your own budget and confidence in the tip provided, and make your own decision whether to follow, cash out or continue at every stage. 18+, please gamble responsibly.

We will use a unit system for our stakes, allowing readers to set their own unit value that suits their own budget. For the sake of simplicity, for us, 1 unit = £1.

We will continue to transparently track our progress as far as we go on the path to 1,000, but will refresh our main tracking stake back to the starting point every time we surpass 100 units – a 10x ROI.

For the sake of consistency, all tips are placed using odds from bet365. It worth pointing out that with Bet365 we can paid out if our selection goes into a lead by two or more goals.

We have reset the the betting balance to 100 units but will continue to track on the overall record. We are now onto 409.64.

Bet 17 – Watford vs West Ham – Saturday 29th August at 3pm

Watford and West Ham have both seen at least two goals in each of their opening two Championship matches, while the underlying numbers support another game clearing this line at Vicarage Road.

Watford beat Southampton 2-1 before drawing 1-1 at Wrexham. They scored in both matches but were outcreated each time, allowing three big chances in their opener before losing the xG battle 1.94 to 0.59 at Wrexham. Across those two games, Watford have averaged 13 shots while facing 14.5, with their fixtures producing 27.5 efforts per match.

Their chance data also highlights their defensive vulnerability. Watford have created only two big chances while conceding five, leaving them 22nd in the Championship with a 29% ratio. They have also recorded 16 shots inside the box while allowing 21.

This is not only an early-season pattern. At least two goals were scored in 37 of Watford’s 46 league fixtures last season, an 80% strike rate. The line landed in 20 of their 23 home games, or 87%, while Watford kept only five clean sheets at Vicarage Road.

West Ham have generated 4.94 xG across their two league matches, recording 2.10 against Burnley and 2.84 against Charlton. They rank fourth for total shots at 18 per game, fifth for shots inside the box with 28 and seventh for big chances with eight.

All four league matches involving these teams have reached two goals. Watford’s defensive record and West Ham’s attacking output make over 1.5 match goals the selection.
