Bet 21 – Burnley vs Middlesbrough – Wednesday 2nd September at 7:45m
No Championship side has conceded more goals than Burnley's nine, despite most of the division having played a fourth match last night. The Clarets have played three, with every opponent scoring at least twice and no clean sheets recorded.
Their defensive problems extend beyond the results. Burnley have allowed 6.10 xGA, averaging 2.03 per match, alongside 15 shots on target and 10 big chances. Opponents have regularly found opportunities to punish them.
Middlesbrough arrive without a failed-to-score performance in the league. They scored twice against Lincoln, once at Blackburn and three times against West Brom, with their six goals supported by 6.17 xG.
Their attacking average of 2.06 xG comes alongside 41 shots inside the box, 16 shots on target and 13 big chances. Boro's 6.03 xPTS across the opening three rounds also compares favourably with Burnley's 3.62, reflecting stronger overall performances.
The venue figures offer further support, although each covers only one match. Middlesbrough generated 1.49 xG in their away appearance, while Burnley allowed 1.55 xGA at home.
Will Lankshear has scored six goals in five appearances across all competitions. His form adds to the case against a defence yet to shut out an opponent. Middlesbrough to score at least once is the selection.
